Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Door County Premieres June 27

Wisconsin Public Television (WPT) presents the premiere broadcast of Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Door County at 8 p.m. Monday, June 27.

The eighth installment in WPT’s ongoing local history project, Wisconsin Hometown Stories: Door County shares stories of tourism, cherries, art, and land preservation that capture the history of the region.

Formed on the edge of the Niagara Escarpment,Door County’s history has been guided both by its glacial geography and byits earliest native inhabitants and European settlers who were drawn by rich hunting and fishing resources.

Film, archival images, aerial footage and interviews with historians, local citizens and experts tell theunique stories of Door County and the role its history played in shaping a county that is still a manufacturing and agricultural hub, as well as a vacation haven.

Viewers willexplore ethnic heritages that still thrive across the land, the roots of Door County’s growth as a center for the arts, and efforts to preserve both the land and the natural beauty that define one of Wisconsin’s mostcharmingplaces.

Full video of the documentary will be available for free at broadcast for on-demand viewing at wisconsinhometownstories.org. Also, coming in autumn 2016, teachers will be able to select from an array of cost-free online curriculum materials related to Door County’s stories created by a local educator committee in cooperation with WPT.
