The Down Syndrome Association of Greater St. Louis is again bringing the Lydia Cox Memorial Bike Camp to St. Louis. This camp is made possible with the support of the Lydia Faith Cox Family Foundation, Variety St. Louis (varietystl.org) and iCan Shine (icanshine.org). This will be the 10th year that the DSAGSL has brought this extraordinary camp to St. Louis!

What is the Lydia Faith Cox Memorial Bike Camp? / The mission of the Lydia Cox Memorial Bike Camp is to teach individuals with Down syndrome eight years of age and older to ride a conventional two wheel bicycle and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement, in turn, creates a gateway of opportunity, helping them gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.
When and where does it take place? / The camp will take place Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5 at South Technical High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Campers will be assigned a 75 minute riding session for each of the five days of camp.
Who can participate? / In order to participate in this camp, riders must be 8 years of age or older and must meet the additional requirements set by iCan Shine found on the application. The DSAGSL will do our best to fill the camp with individuals with Down syndrome before opening it up to individuals with other disabilities.
How much does it cost? / The bike camp fee is $150 per rider. This goes towards the cost of a new bike upon camp completion! All riders receive a t-shirt, helmet, snacks, and water.
How do I sign my child up? / The application form can be found on our website at dsagsl.org/programs-resources/wellness-programming. Applications must be mailed to the DSAGSL office at 8531 Page Ave, St. Louis, MO 63114.
Applications will be accepted on a first come first served basis through April 30, 2014.
Do you need volunteers? / We are also looking for volunteers to walk and run alongside the bike camp riders. This is a truly inspiring and rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the life of an individual with Down syndrome. We need up to 100 volunteers to make this camp a success! To volunteer, complete the volunteer form found at: dsagsl.org/programs-resources/wellness-programming.
