FIRE IN DREAMLAND, anOriginKC: New Works Production at KCRep, Recently Added to 2017-2018Season atNew York’s Famed Public Theater!

Kansas City, MO– Kansas City Repertory Theatre announced today thatFIRE IN DREAMLANDhasbeen added to the 2017-2018 season at The Public Theater in New York City. KCRep also congratulates their Director of New Works, Marissa Wolf who will direct the play for The Public Theater.

FIRE IN DREAMLANDmarks the third OriginKC: New Works production that has gone on to be produced at The Public Theater in New York. Commissioned by Berkeley Rep and The Public Theater,FIRE IN DREAMLAND was part of the inaugural season for the OriginKC: New Works Festival at KCRepin 2015.Additionally, THE GREAT IMMENSITY, a thrilling and timely production that looks at the artists, scientists, and activists who are working creatively to tackle the big issues of climate change and other environmental crises, and VENICE, an ambitious new musical written by KCRep Artistic Director Eric Rosen, have found their way to The Public Theater stage.

Having directed the world premiere at KCRep, Marissa Wolf will direct the production of FIRE IN DREAMLAND at The Public. KCRep’s’ curator and producer for its annual New Works Festival, Wolf says, “In collaboration with Artistic Director Eric Rosen, I’m thrilled to champion vital, urgent and nationally recognized plays and musicalsunder the umbrella ofOriginKC, forwarding Kansas City as a major national center for the development and production of new work. FIRE IN DREAMLAND was among the very first new plays we produced here under the auspices of the New Works Festival, and Kansas City has become part of the play’s DNA.”

DREAMLANDis written by Rinne Groff (The Ruby Sunrise, Saved) is a moving, lyrical piece, set on Coney Island, in the aftermath of 2012’s Superstorm Sandy. It explores the astonishing things we do when faced with devastation. To learn more about FIRE IN DREAMLAND:
