FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Former pfeg Chief Executive honoured in Queen’s birthday list for services to finance education

Wendy van den Hende, Chief Executive of pfeg (the Personal Finance Education Group) from 2000 until March 2012, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list announced on Saturday 16th June.

Wendy, who served at the helm of pfeg for 12 years, retired from the organisation in March. Over 12 years she built the organisation up to be a world leader in financial education practices. In 2009 she oversaw the launch of My Money Week, the largest and most recognised financial education initiative in England. Her work in parliament and with the Department for Education has seen financial education pushed up the political agenda. The subject has received unprecedented attention following the success of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Financial Education for Young People, the largest group in parliament of its kind, which is clerked by pfeg.

Otto Thoresen, Director General of the Association of British Insurers and Chair of the pfeg Board stated ‘We are immensely proud of Wendy. Her work has been essential in highlighting the importance of financial education in schools. This recognition is truly deserved.’

Tracey Bleakley, the new Chief Executive of pfeg who joined the organisation in April 2012, said ‘Wendy’s legacy is clear to see. We are now in the best position to ensure that financial education is given the prominence it deserves within the National Curriculum. I would like to congratulate Wendy on behalf of everyone at pfeg.’
