Rhino Linings Building Products Used in New Property Brothers Series
Jonathan and Drew Scott Renovated Their Personal Home for the Property Brothers at Home Series
San Diego, Calif. (Dec. 18, 2014)—Elastomeric and concrete coatings manufactured by Rhino Linings Corporation were recently used in a new HGTV series, The Property Brothers At Home.
The four-part series, which aired from Nov. 26 through Dec. 17, followed the Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew Scott, as they renovated their personal home in Las Vegas. The existing home had two outdoor problem areas that the design team needed help with.
First, the color and texture of the home’s balcony and covered porch needed to be updated, but it still needed to be waterproof and slip resistant. Next, an outdoor metal staircase also needed to be made safer. The black stair treads on the spiral staircase could become unbearably hot in the desert climate, so the design team needed to find a way to make the treads cooler and add slip resistance to them.
The production team contacted Rhino Linings, hoping that one of its well-known elastomeric coatings might work on the stairs. Then they realized that Rhino Linings Concrete Solutions® products could be used to resurface the balcony too.
“Many people still do not realize that Rhino Linings offers a full line of building products including spray foam insulation, stucco and concrete coatings,” said Pierre Gagnon, president and CEO of Rhino Linings Corporation. “We were happy to work with the Property Brothers to showcase some of these products and how they can solve problem areas in buildings.”
The stairs were masked and coated with SolarMax® 11-70, a rapid curing color stable elastomeric. SolarMax 11-70 was color-matched to paint color selected by the design team. Quartz granules were broadcast onto each stair tread to give added grip and traction to the surface.
Westdeck, a Las Vegas concrete contractor and installer of Concrete Solutions products, refinished the balcony and porch. They ground the existing balcony flooring to remove the texture, and then installed Concrete Solutions waterproofing system. Once dry, the area was resurfaced with Concrete Solutions Resurfacer color-matched to the stair coating and sealed with Sealcoat 1000.
