Odegard Unveils New Showroom

In the Dallas Design District

Featuring Signature Carpets, Furniture and Objects

NEW YORK, NY, July 2009 — On July 30th, Stephanie Odegard will enter into the burgeoning Dallas Design District with the relocation of her eponymous showroom. Lit with natural light by four skylights, and with the ability to triple the amount of items that could be displayed, the new street level, 4,400 square foot showroom will feature an expanded selection of Odegard’s iconic, and luxurious hand-knotted wool carpets, classic yet modern in style, alongside meticulously crafted one-of-a-kind furniture pieces and objects from The Stephanie Odegard Collection.

For the opening, Odegard will showcase carpets inspired by the unsurpassed design legacy of 17th-century Mughal India. The extravagantly embellished fabrics, decorations, and gold jewelry created during India’s glorious Mughal Empire inspired Stephanie Odegard’s Mughal and Mughal Jewelry Collections. The Mughal Collection consists of opulent carpets with themes of gardens and courts while the Mughal Jewelry Collection shows the craftsmanship, reflective quality, and dazzling opulence of Indian jewelry.

Since the early nineties, Odegard’s singular style has invigorated the design world by using her rare gift for surface design and exquisite color sense to create carpets inspired by the world’s timeless design traditions. Odegard carpets are at once rich, suggesting the patina of age, yet contemporary in design. Complimenting this, at the opening will be a live demonstration on the hand knotting techniques that goes into the making of every Odegard Carpet.

Odegard’s homage to the time-honored craft traditions of India’s classical past is also highlighted with select items from her opulent furniture and accessories collection, some of which was created in partnership with designer Paul Mathieu in 2003. Recently introduced and displayed is the finely embellished Architectural + Decorative Surfaces Collection from India. This, along with handcrafted furnishings, which feature marble surfaces inlaid with semi-precious stones, rosewood inlaid with mother of pearl, hand-hammered copper, silver and brass objects and surfaces, are all transformed into jewelry for the home.

The Dallas showroom opening will also give guests the opportunity to learn about Odegard’s longtime support of the RugMark Foundation. RugMark is committed to ending illegal child labor in the worldwide carpet industry. A percentage of every Odegard carpet produced and imported is paid to the RugMark Foundation to ensure that each and every hand-knotted carpet is made without child labor. Stephanie took the lead in this for the carpet industry and remains the largest contributor.

Presented by Rugmark, on exhibit until August 30th will be Faces of Freedom, a photography exhibit by acclaimed documentary photographer U. Roberto Romano that depicts illegal child labor in the handmade rug industry in South Asia and RugMark’s innovative child-labor-free rug certification program designed to eradicate it. In conjunction is theexhibit of the moving and poignant photography of Tibetan refugees by Nancy Jo Johnson. She first encountered Tibetan refugees in the early 1980s while living in Kathmandu, Nepal and has been working to raise their awareness through her documentary photojournalism.

The Odegard Dallas Showroom, is located in the Dallas Design District at 154 Glass Street, Suite 102 in Dallas, Texas. In addition to Odegard, Glass Street will soon be home to the Dallas Contemporary, an art space that serves as an incubator for new artists, and an entrance to the urban revitalization development, Trinity River Corridor Project. The Odegard showroom is located near the Santiago Calatrava designed Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge which is currently under construction.

The newly relocated showroom is managed by Michael Reagan, a native Texan who returned to Dallas in 2005 to join the Odegard team. William Anspach promotes the Odegard brand through an outreach program to members of the art and design community in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

Stephanie Odegard continues to create new designs and collections while continuing the mission of Odegard, to marry the interests of the upscale designer market with the age-old tradition of hand-knotted carpet weaving. Coupled with its promise of product quality and integrity, the Odegard brand is synonymous with luxury, stand-alone design and far-reaching social responsibility.
