Jeff Dale & The South Woodlawners release debut CD

“Blues From The South Side Of My Soul”

LOS ANGELES (January 2009) - Jeff Dale & The South Woodlawners debut CD “Blues From The South Side Of My Soul” is being released in January 2009 on the Pro Sho Bidness label. “Blues From The South Side Of My Soul” features 11 tracks that include contributions from Lee Loughnane (founding and still current member of the band Chicago) Jeff Stone (Zac Harmon Band) and Lightnin’ Dan Sonenfeld (Blue Wave Band). The tracks run the gamut from the explosive power of the title track to the raw, bare bones combo of slide guitar and drum machine of “Third Rail.” Furthermore, “Love My Baby Blind” might be the only blues song ever recorded with a bassoon solo.

Jeff Dale, born and raised on the south side of Chicago, started playing guitar at age 12. By the time he was 16 he had been influenced by Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy & Jr. Wells, Hound Dog Taylor, Otis Rush, The Siegel Schwall Band and other legendary blues musicians who performed around Chicago. He played in many bands throughout his teens and early twenties, eventually co-founding the Blue Wave Band in Los Angeles in the late ‘70s. While in the BWB, Jeff had the opportunity to meet Muddy, Albert King and Willie Dixon as well as play with Lowell Fulson, Long Gone Miles, Pee Wee Crayton, Etta James and Clifton Chenier. The Blue Wave Band released two records of Jeff’s original material on Cool and Usual Records: “What It Is” in 1986 and “Modern Blues” in 1988. Both albums garnered industry praise and awards.

After a gig at the famous Palomino club in late 1988, Jeff disappeared. Twenty years later in 2008, Jeff resurfaced with a brand new band called The South Woodlawners. Jeff is not talking about where he’s been but he explains the band name: “When I was a kid and we acted up in class, our teacher would accuse us of behaving like a bunch of South Woodlawners. We did not know who these kids were but they had our undying admiration.” When asked why he’s resurfacing now Jeff replies: “You can have all the technique in the world when you’re young but you gotta live a life and become a grown-ass man to really know and feel the blues. Now, like my heroes, I got a lot to say in my songs.”
