Flemingdon Health Centre (FHC) is a registered charity and an incorporated not‐for‐profit Community Health Centre (CHC) located in Toronto. We provide a range of health related services based on the social determinants of health and community engagement models.

The successful candidate will be a part of the Community Engagement: Health Promotion Team and responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of food security programming.

Employment terms: Summer Contract for 8 weeks, 30 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends, based on the needs of the community. Position start date last week of May or early June 2017.

Hourly Rate: $11.40 + 4% vacation pay

Reporting to: Health Promotion Team Lead and/or designate

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current post-secondary student who will be returning to college or university in September 2017
  • Must be under the age of 30 (as required by funding mandate)
  • Priority to be given to applicants who identify as a member of a visible minority group (as required by funding mandate)

Required Skills and Proficiencies:

  • Passionate about community health and health promotion
  • Thorough knowledge of community development and determinants of health strategies
  • Experience working with multi-ethnic groups and persons with disabilities
  • Facilitation skills and experience in adult education/ group facilitation
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to speak another language is an asset
  • Well-organized and able to work both independently and cooperatively in an interdisciplinary-team environment
  • Possesses an interest to do research, literature review and environmental scan to ensure that education materials are current and relevant
  • Proficiency in the use of computer, various Microsoft Office software; ongoing daily statistics recording is expected

Duties may include but not limited to the following:

  • Support planning, implementation and evaluation of food security programming, such as community kitchens and community garden program.
  • Support events and initiatives supported by the Healthy Kids Community Challenge
  • Attend outreach events and develop outreach plans for connecting with community residents and prospective clients
  • Responsible for facilitation/co-facilitation of group sessions
  • Conduct research and gather information to develop program content
  • Support with evaluation process of community programs
  • Responsible for program client registration, records of attendance and other related administrative tasks
  • Attend and participate in regular team meetings and FHC meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned that are reasonable within the scope of the job
