COST 929:Training Course in

Food and Environmental Virology

The COST 929 Action “A European Network for Environmental and Food Virology” is organizing a Training Course in Food and Environmental Virology.

Objective

The objective of the course is to encourage the training activities of researchers who are interested in working on Environmental and Food Virology subjects in order to develop cooperation in these areas. The training course is aiming at strengthening the existing network by educating scientists in thedeveloping subject ofFood and Environmental Virology

Dates: Monday 10 May, 10.00 a.m – Friday, 14 May 14.00 p.m

Location: University of Patras, Greece

Candidates

The course is open to PhD students, post-doctoral students and researchers belonging to organizations within or outside the COST Network1, with priority given to early researchers (persons with less than 8 years scientific experience post-doctorate or post-graduate). The course attendance is limited up to 20-25 students.

During the training course the following topics will be covered:

1. Basic Environmental and Food Virology

2. Risk Assessment in Environmental and Food Virology

3. Methods in Environmental and Food Virology

4. Stability of viruses in Food and Environment

5. Virus outbreaks and epidemiology

What is available?

A student grant for a limited number of students (up to 12-15 students) will cover the travel costs to and from the applicant’s country to the host institute’s location (up to 350 €), plus subsistence costs for their stay.

Evaluation Procedure

All grantrequests will be evaluated by the COST STSMs Committee and approved by the Action Chair. Evaluation will take into account the quality of CV of the candidate and the requested sum. The evaluation procedure will be rapid, and successful applicants will be notified by email, by April 5th. Unsuccessful applicants will be given feedback from the evaluation, by April 5th.

Aftercompleting the training course the candidate must submit a 1 page summary of the scientific report to Dr. Apostolos Vantarakis by 20th May 2010. Dr. Vantarakis will notify the candidate of approval of the report, within a few days. The candindate must submit the Final Payment Request for to the COST 929 Administrative Officer Mrs Jeannette Nchung Oru () by 25th of May at the latest. Final payment requests received after this date may not be paid.
