ART, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY DETAILS

At present, the Art, Design& Technology department has five well-organised Studios; three overlooking the English Channel and two purpose built in Prospect house, each housing a particular media specialism at GCSE & A’level in addition to general Fine Art & Design Technology activities at KS3.

In addition, there is a Darkroom, Departmental office (also used by PGCE student), Apple IMac suite, Windows suite, plus various storage/small work/studio areas.

The department has a strong Fine-art tradition, is extremely successful, and is well supported within the school. We are looking for someone to lead the Design Technology area at exam level and contribute to this recently formed integration across the Art & Design spectrum.

KS3

Years 7 and 8 are taught Art, Design & Technology in groups of approx. 20 and have two (Yr7) or three (Yr8) 50-minute lessons per week.

GCSE

Years 9-11 have two 50-minute lessons per week in groups of approx. 20-28.

Fine Art is a popular option with an average of 50+ candidates per year, taught in two groups.

Photography has been introduced for the first time this year with two groups in Year 9.

Product Design has one group.

Textile Design has been a recent addition and is also proving very popular, with two large groups in each of Years 9 and 10.

AS

Year 12 have six 50-minute lessons (3 doubles) per week in groups of approx. 10-18.

Fine Artis a popular option fluctuating between one and two groups per year.

Photography started in 2010 and varies between 1 and 3 groups.

Product Design - there were insufficient numbers opting for a class to run this year.

Textile Design has been introduced for the first time this year.

A2

Year 13 have six 50-minute lessons (3 doubles) per week in groups of approx. 10-18.

Fine Artis a popular option taught in one group.

Photography has two groups.

Product Design has one group.

Many girls continue their art studies with a foundation course at UCA (Maidstone or Canterbury) or Central St Martins, before progressing onto various degree courses around the country. Each year more are applying directly to Degree level with 100% success rate.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented person who can work as part of a team, a committed teacher with initiative and ideas, and the ability to teach across the age range.

A good all-round creative teacher with sound knowledge and skills is of primary importance with specialist interest in promoting Product Design – those who would also teach across the traditional boundaries of Art & Technology would be at an advantage.

A willingness to be fully involved in departmental activities is expected, for example; visits/clubs/exhibitions/extra-curricular/ etc.

Opportunities for innovation and professional development are available, and applications from experienced or newly qualified teachers are invited.

Applicants called for interview will be expected to bring examples of their own and pupil’s artwork.
