Summer 2017 will see the second Ceilidh Trail in Inverness & Nairn-shire run by Fèis Inbhir Narainn (FIN) with grant support from Fèisean nan Gàidheal, Creative Scotland, Highlands & Islands Enterprise, The Highland Council and Bòrd na Gàidhlig. The post for ‘student musician’ is open to all people aged between 16 and 25 years. As the FIN Caledonian Ceilidh Trail is a developmental project for individual young musicians, two consecutive years is the maximum time that a musician can be involved in the Trail.
It is an excellent opportunity for young people who wish to further their skills in traditional music and performance. It also aims to promote Scotland’s traditional music and Gaelic language and enhance the visitors experience during the summer holidays. The Ceilidh Trail will be a great experience for young musicians and band members to make lifelong friends during the project.
The Lead Musician for the Trail is Rachel Campbell. Accommodation must be arranged by each individual musician, but travel during the fortnight tour is by minibus from a central meeting point. Mileage between your home address and a pick up point in Inverness will be reimbursed by the Trail. You will be employed by Fèis Inbhir Narainn and a payment of £450 will be made to each of the five musicians in the Trail for the fortnights’ work. The period of employment will be Monday 31st July – Sunday 13th August 2017.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Monday 20th March 2017.
DEIT NA H-AGALLAIMH | AUDITION DATE
Audition: Saturday 25th March Time: 12pm
Venue: Nairn Community Centre
Please have one set of tunes prepared for your audition and a short individual interview will be held also. During the audition, applicants will have the chance to meet fellow musicians and work with one another to create a set to perform at the end of the day. You will be assessed on your ability to work with others and on what you bring to the band. This day aims to be as fun and relaxed as possible. Lunch and snacks will be provided.
If through exceptional circumstances you cannot make the audition date, consideration will be given to you recording your set and emailing it to with your application form before 5pm on 20th March.
TRÈANADH | TRAINING
Local training will be organised to help prepare successful applicants for the Cèilidh Trail. Once they’ve been confirmed, these will be sent out ASAP.
Fèis Alba
Fèis Alba is a training week held in Plockton and organised by Fèisean nan Gàidheal and will prepare musicians for the gigs ahead. All band members will be encouraged to put forward ideas on the musical arrangements and work together as a team with the guidance of the lead musician. This will be held either 3 - 7th July or 10 - 14th July 2017.
This week will also look at:
· Performance skills
· Talking to your audience
· Musical arrangement (with guest artists)
· Gaelic phrases and songs
The Ceilidh Trail band will put together a musical programme to cater for a variety of audiences including Ceilidh dancers, Listening sets, Pub gigs, tourist venues and more.
