/ 1. Responding to the Text
·  Visual Literacy: use the picture on the front cover – what could this be about?
·  Book talk: read sections of story and discuss illustrations
·  Book talk: what do you like or not like about the book?
·  Book talk: have you any questions about the story? Does it remind you of anything?
·  Writer talk: find all the verbs that can be linked to fear. How are they used to build tension?
·  Writer talk: what techniques has the writer used? What is their effect? (Repetition, alliteration, onomatopoeia, expanded noun phrases, specific verbs and adjectives)
·  Writer talk: use selected pages and look at how the writer has used different fonts, text size, colour and bold for different aspects - family/wolves, dialogue/action/description. What is the impact?
