JOB TITLE:FURNITURE SHOP MANAGER
RESPONSIBLE TO:AREA MANAGER
RESPONSIBLE FOR:DEPUTY MANAGER AND VOLUNTEERS
OBJECTIVE:To manage all Furniture shop activities in order to achieve set targets and maximise sales and maintain standards.
MAIN DUTIES
- To maintain the weekly rota and to update ensuring optimum cover.
- To recruit, interview and train new Volunteers to agreed procedures.
- To manage the shop team by providing the direction, on going training and motivation necessary to secure their competence and commitment.
- To assist in the recruitment and training of Deputy Managers.
- To organise the further processing of all House Collection deliveries to the required standards and agreed amounts for the shop.
- To price all furniture and relevant items to the agreed guidelines.
- To maintain the charity’s stock quality standards and to follow the stock pricing guidelines.
- To ensure only items that are legally fit for sale go on the shop floor.
- To handle the control, security and re-ordering of all bought in merchandise.
- To drive sales forward by ensuring effective merchandising and by meeting the replenishment guidelines.
- To drive sales by managing the Ebay account ensuring all items are put up for sale, that descriptions are accurate and that all customer enquiries are replied to in a timely fashion.
- To maximise shop sales to meet targets set and agreed for the shop.
- To maintain high standards of presentation and display by merchandising and housekeeping to agreed standards.
- To ensure standards of cleanliness and order are maintained throughout the shop.
- To have a working understanding of the profitability of the shop and controllable costs.
- To control direct shop expenses through effective cost control.
- To ensure that the shop is open during set trading hours.
- To implement the highest standards of customer care and service at all times.
- Ensure that furniture deliveries are organised and payments/ delivery criteria are met to required standards.
- To monitor and check the security of stock and cash on the premises and report any shortfalls to the Area Manager.
- To ensure the satisfactory completion of the daily till audit and that all monies are deposited, at the post office/bank.
- To attend all meetings and training sessions as required by the Area Manager.
- To be available to work on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.
- To be available to work in other Acorns Children's Hospice Shops within the required trading day.

- Actively participate in an annual Individual Performance Review.
- Actively participate in training and development to further enhance your role within Acorns.

- Be aware of and comply with the rules relating to your employment as detailed in the employee handbook and Retail Operations Manual.
- Be aware of and comply with the Health & Safety regulations of Acorns Children's Hospice Trust.
- Be aware of and comply with the Fire Regulations within any Acorns building.
- Carry out any reasonable duty as requested by your Line Manager.

ESSENTIAL / DESIREDQualifications / Good standard of general education
GCSE English & Maths or equivalent
Experience / Worked within retail sales, ideally furniture
Have experience in managing/coaching
Have experience of Ebay selling
Have experience in managing a delivery service / Experience in charity shop retailing
Experience of working with volunteers
Experience in dealing with the public
Skills/Abilities / Customer service focus
Ability to make quick commercial decisions
Good communication skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
POSITION:Furniture Shop Manager
REPORTING TO:Area Manager
LOCATION: All Shops
SALARY:£ 18,502.00 pa
NOTICE: 4 weeks
HOURS: 37.5 hours per week
5 days per week including Saturdays
09:00 am to 17:30 pm, with 1 hour lunch each day.
Sunday and Bank Holiday working will be required
HOLIDAYS:23 days + public holidays, rising to 27 after 3 years’ service
PENSION:Trust will contribute 7.5%
LIFE ASSURANCE: 2 x salary life assurance scheme
