Information for Practices
Flu Vaccinations – Future Campaigns:
The NHSE Winter campaign is underway. A big part of this is about increasing uptake of the flu vaccination, particularly amongst ‘at risk’ groups. People with learning disabilities are identified as ‘at risk’, which entitles them to afree flu vaccination. Their carers are also entitled to a free flu jab.
Campaign messaging will run at set weeksthroughout winter to make a splash and maximise impact across the South. Can you please support this by scheduling relevant messaging at the same time(s):
  • People with learning disabilities –w/c 22 January 2018
  • Carers –w/c 19 February 2018
Health and social care communications colleagues can access a toolkit and campaign material here:
The resources are similar to last year, including re-promoting the short video of Camilla getting her flu jab because it proved a big success. Last year it gained over 500 views during one awareness week alone – ranking as the second most watched video on the NHSE national YouTube channel. At the time, the only video ‘out-viewing’ it had been live for over two years. Since then, the views have continued to rise, currently standing at over 1,500 unique views.

Funded Mentoring Opportunities: GP Mentors To Support District Nurses With Independent Prescribing Training:
The District Nursing service is skilling up its team leaders to be able to do advanced assessments and prescribe treatments for patients on their caseload, as part of their specialist District Nursing Team Leader qualification. This will lead to more autonomy for nurses, reducing demand on GPs and enhanced career progression, improving retention of nurses. This will also lead to a more holistic approach for patients, increasing continuity of care and avoiding delays to diagnosis and treatment.
In order for DN students to undertake the V300 (Independent Prescribing) qualification, they require a medical mentor andOxford Health will provide £1700 as remuneration to each GP mentor, to help GPs secure capacity to take on this role. Oxford Health also guarantee to place the person you have mentored for their final placements (Jan to Sept 2018) and for their Team Leader role, on qualification in September 2018, in your neighbourhood team.
More information is attached hereor if would like to discuss this further, please contact Gabbie Parham, Senior Matron for Community Nursingor telephone Gabbie direct on 07833 295413.
