March general Meeting and Member TrainingMarch 06, 2012

  • Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Flotilla Commander Garrison Bromwell at 19:00 hours

a) The following members were present: FC G. Bromwell, VC M. Kirchner, C. Holstein, D. Julian, G. Proudlock, M. Brough, K. Sjolin

b)Also present: Guests – Dale Vodicka Div. 2, Kelly Garber Div. 2, Ann Lisk, Ashley Diaz

  • Pledge of Allegiance

All members and guests present took the pledge of allegiance lead by K. Garber

  • Introduction of Guests: Ann Lisk and Ashley Diaz potential new members were introduced by Doug Julian.
  • Sick Call: Joseph LeContie is recovering from surgery, Carl Childs has a bad ankle and Dave Fullman is recovering from knee surgery.
  • Awards Presentation and Recognition: Mike Brough was presented with the Boating Safety award

VC – Matt Kirchner reported they are still working with marketing team @ the UW, the ABS class for 03/24 is full (15) people signed up

IP-FC – Gary Proudlock – nothing

Rat Pack – HR- Doug Julian and FSO – MT Catie Holstein have (6) new leads and are actively working with Ann Lisk and Ashley Diaz to get them signed up.

FN – Debra Hallas-Uber – presented the financial report for March. Minutes from February meeting motion made to accept minutes, motion made and seconded. Motion carried.

  • 10 Mar – Division 2 Operations All Hands - 0830 Pier 36 in the Bear Room (ODU is the uniform of the day except SDB for those attending the Wally Younger memorial later in the day.)Operations workshop (highly recommended for everyone in surface operations but NOT required) as well as a discussion about local requirements, patrol areas, etc. If you are involved in operations or want to become involved in operations you should attend this All Hands.
  • 10 Mar – Flotilla 21 Crew Training Session – 1330 aboard the Emerald Isle at Edmonds Marina – (See the announcement above about crew training). This is the kick off session for crew training in Flotilla 21. Please let either the FC or the FSO-HR (Doug Julien) know you will attend. Uniform is ODU. It’s also strongly recommend that you attend the morning’s Operational All Hands in addition to the crew training. This session will cover how the program works, operational risk assessment, and pre-underway check lists.
  • 15 Mar – Instructors Development Course – Division 2 – this and the next two Thursday nights – become and instructor and be able to teach in the Public Education or Member Training areas. This will be hands on training and will be complete with a “training wheels” ABS class for Auxiliary members on 31 March.
  • 20 Mar – Flotilla 21 Staff Meeting - Location TBD
  • 21 Mar - Flotilla 21 Crew Training – Open Session continuing the focus on pre-underway check lists and operational risk assessment. 1900, location TBD but probably Chuck Olson Chevrolet. Uniform is ODU.
  • 24 Mar – About Boating Safely (ABS) course at Bothell beginning at 0830 – instructors should contact Mike Brough with their availability.
  • 3 Apr – Flotilla 21 Meeting at Kenmore City Hall – Member Training will be Boat Crew Duties and Responsibilities presented by the Area QE Coordinator North Doug Julien.
  • 7 Apr – Division 2 QE Session Gene Coulon Park – Triennial qualifications by prior arrangement with the Division 2 SO-OP.
  • 14 Apr – Great Northern Area Training Session (GNATS) @ Pier 36 – a complete agenda will be out shortly but your FC has been involved in the planning for this event. Some of the subject areas are Boat Show Booth Conduct and Marketing, Vessel Exams on Paddle Craft, Radio Comms update, MT/PE instructor self evaluation, Staff Officer Training, Mentoring in the Boat Crew Program and other training sessions – something for every member. This is an annual event held somewhere in the northern area, this year we are fortunate to have it in our own back yard.
  • 15 Apr – 8 Hour RMTT/TCT – Risk Management Team Training – Team Coordination Training is required if you are involved in Operations. The basic 8 hour course must be retaken every 5 years (2 if you are a QE). This course may not be repeated until the fall – if you are all interested in operations take the course while you can!   • Old Business: Flotilla Flag – had to send back for minor change, should be done fairly soon.
  • New Business:
