Director’s Summary

First Week of School:

We had our challenges in the Technology Department during the first week of school. We had wireless connection issues at both high schools the first few days. We have identified the problem and will implement a different approach next year. On Tuesday, we lost phones and email for a short period of time as all 4 of our physical servers hosting our virtual envirnoment went down at the same time. After many hours, we identified the issue and put a fix in place. On Thursday morning, we had a UPS go down at Skyline Ranch that was connected to the switch that delivers our internet access. Internet was down for a short time as well.

Summer Projects:

We were able to complete many of our summer projects, but we have a a few that are ongoing. Exchange 2013 Upgrade - This is still in process. We had some issues with our 4 physical servers that host our virtual environment but those issues have been resolved now and we will complete the email upgrade shortly. We also ran into an issue moving our current public facing site to our google sites. We will re-evaluate what we need to do and our new completion target is Fall Break.

Chromebooks/Tablets at Anthem:

We held a successful training at Anthem K8 the Friday before school started to train the teachers on the chromebooks and tablets they received for this school year. They are now ready to start the school year with this exciting technology in their classrooms.

ISTE Conference

Gabriel Carrillo and I attended the ISTE 2014 Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. We were able to learn new ideas to bring back to our district to help our teachers and staff. We also had the opportunity to network with other education professionals from around the country. This was the best part of the conference.

Technology Work Orders

The Technology Department staff completed 303 official technology work order requests in July. Many thanks go to Amado Gutierrez III for coordinating these efforts.
