Flopzilla Work: different calling ranges on different flops

How often do ranges “hit” various flops?

  • Total “Hit” = TP+ and OESD+ and combo draws (even gutshot + overcards)
  • It’s eye opening to see how some ranges completely whiff or strike gold on certain flops.
  • Learning which flop types hit more often than others can mean the difference between profitable and unprofitable cbets.
  • TP+ = all top pair hands or better (no draws)
  • It’s eye opening to see how infrequently some ranges hit certain flops.
  • Knowing how unlikely (or how likely) your opp hit TP will allow for better cbet bluffing.
  • Middle Pair+ = all middle pair hands or better (no draws, no weak pairs)
  • It’s eye opening to see how many middle pairs get hit on flops.
  • Keep in mind that your fishy/stationy opponents won’t be folding with middle pair hands.
  • Make sure to record a note on how your opponents play their mid-pair hands (passively or aggressively).
  • OESD = how often the range hits an open ended straight draw
  • It’s eye opening to see how infrequently ranges hit oesd’s.
  • Know which types of boards offer more oesd’s so you can better rep them yourself.
  • Make sure to record a note on how your opponents play their straight draws (passively or aggressively).
  • FD = how often the range hits weak fd+ (not back door fd’s)
  • It’s eye opening to see how infrequently flush draws hit.
  • It feels like our opponents often flop flush draws, but it really isn’t that often at all.
  • Make sure to record a note on how your opponents play flopped flush draws (passively or aggressively).

Your Homework: Using Flopzilla, complete the charts for 13%, 22% and 33% Calling Ranges. I’ve included the ranges I feel fit the various %’s, but feel free to use your own range instead. Enter both % of the range and the # of combos.

  • Also answer the 6 Question Quiz at the end
  • You can do this for multiple ranges (i.e. 5/10/15/20/25/30/35%).
  • You can do this for open raising ranges, 3bet ranges, 3bet calling ranges and any other ranges you can think of.

Practice here = better understanding of range/board interaction = better post-flop play
