Fleetwood Surgery

FLEETWOOD SURGERY

PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

Minutes of Meeting - Thursday 17th September 2015

Welcome & Apologies

A welcome was given to RH who has joined the PPG. Introductions around the table were made.

Minutes of last meeting

The minutes of the last meeting were discussed and accepted as a true reflection.

Care Quality Commission

The group were informed that it was likely that the surgery would receive a CQC visit within the next 2-4 months, and 2 weeks’ notice would be given. Liz asked the group to offer opinions in advance of the visit and, where possible, be available on the day to be interviewed by the CQC inspectors. Inspection reports of other local surgeries are available on the CQC website if group members would like to see what areas are reviewed on visits.

Practice update

Liz informed the group about a few changes to surgery staff:

·  Dr Kwun will be retiring from General Practice at the end of September. The surgery has not yet been able to recruit a new GP Partner due to countrywide shortages of GPs. Liz asked the group to consider how we can deliver a message to all patients to be protective of their use of GP appointments without appearing to be ‘blocking’ them.

·  Dr Jacky Panesar is a female GP joining the surgery at the beginning of October, working on a Monday.

·  Liz discussed the uptake of weekend appointments under the PCMF (low usage for Fleetwood Surgery patients).

·  The surgery had received a letter from local government regarding new housing in the local area and the possible increase in patient numbers, and therefore demand for health care. Liz advised that she thought the new houses would attract families who don’t usually require a lot of patient care, but will continue to monitor this along with the other Fleetwood GPs.

Flu Clinics and Patient Questionnaire

The planned flu clinics are to be held on 3rd and 17th October (9am to 1pm). Volunteers were asked for help in distributing questionnaires and also to aid the smooth running of the clinics.

Practice Newsletter

The newsletter drafted by MC was passed around the table for feedback. Liz offered thanks to MC for his work to date and apologised for the delay in getting the information to him. A general discussion was had about the layout, content and design and it was suggested that the newsletter was redesigned. Liz offered all members access to the computers within the surgery for this to be completed. It was hoped this would be done for the flu clinics.

Friends and Family Test

The F & F results were discussed as follows:

Response / Number of returns
Extremely Likely / 12
Likely / 0
Neither likely or unlikely / 0
Unlikely / 0
Extremely unlikely / 2
Don’t Know / 0

Comments provided:

·  All round prompt and efficient services. Friendly and helpful staff.

·  You have bad system for ordering prescriptions mornings only by phone which when working is very awkward and ordering on line still got messed up and wasn't sent to the chemist we choose. The staff who come to Dr ali from the other surgery have very bad customer service. Ever since the merge its gone downhill and your made to feel very uncomfortable. The staff at the window are abrupt when it comes to check in we are currently sorting out to change doctors

·  The doctors are very friendly & amenable. Also very knowledgeable. The Surgery is very well run, with same day appointments, w/end appointments are also available.

·  The staff are friendly and efficient and i was treated as a person not a number.

·  Friendly caring staff at every level. Nothing is too much trouble. Easy to get appointments. Best GP surgery

·  There is a good choice of doctors; you can get an appointment usually the same day or at worst the next day. There are also telephone consultations which is a good addition. Sarah is an excellent nurse. Sheila is excellent on reception and i particularly found Emma to be very helpful. It has proved to be a very good amalgamation of the two surgeries!
