II. Purpose and Objection:

The ultimate objective of fitness is longevity with no disease, no physical pain, and in all simplicity, a lifelong happiness. It is hard to get this objective of life, but it is surly not impossible. The happiness of life can be obtained through physical fitness, and there are many ways people try to reach their desired fitness goals; some of them better their lifestyle, follow a cleaner diet, attend the gym regularly, practice yoga, perform aerobics etc. But what we fail to realize is that what might help one person meet their goals might not help the next. Through this insightful and interactive class, we will build on, and redefine three words: Flexibility, Strength, and Endurance. We will learn what it really means to be “fit,” and how that broad word is used to define different aspects in our characters and of our day-to-day lives. We will set goals, and discover what helps keep our bodies and minds in sync by experimenting with different methods of exercise to see what exactly will help us reach our goals quickly and efficiently.

This class will appeal to every aspect of fitness and will be an even balance of indoor activities as well as outdoor activities. A schedule will be provided on a monthly basis that will give you an overview of what lays ahead. It will be subjected to change, as the weather and other factors are out of our control. Feel free to suggest a workout or an activity you would like to be introduced to the class, as any and all suggestions made will be taken into consideration. This is an interactive class, and I would like to help all of you discover your passion for fitness through any and all means possible. If you have any questions you’d like answered, topics (whether fitness related or health related) you’d like to discuss, or nutritional guidance, you may always reach me through email, or feel free to talk to me before/after classes.

III. Attendance and Participation Policy:

“An excused absence is any absence that occurs due to a documented illness, college visits not exceeding five days in the entire senior year, family emergency or similar situation as determined by the Executive Committee. Vacations, leaving school before the last day, and other absences will be considered unexcused absences. The school should be informed both by telephone and in writing for any sickness or other emergency situations, which prevent the student from coming to the school immediately. A written statement by parents should be received on the following day; if no note is received, it will be counted as an unexcused absence.” ("Absence Policy."Student-Parent Handbook. Mansfield, MA: Al-Noor Academy, Middle and High School, 2014)

Any missed assignments are YOUR responsibility. Please contact me or one of your peers, in a proper and timely matter, to retrieve a copy of any notes/handouts or completed assignments. All assignments must be completed or submitted as instructed, and by the given due date. Any uncompleted assignments due to any reason, including an absence (whether excused or unexcused), will result in a late-grade or a zero, depending on when the assignment was submitted (please refer to ANAHS Handbook).

Participation will be a great portion of your final grade. Every class will be graded out of 50 possible points. A 5 point deduction will be made for every interruption, and if a student is called out on 3 interruptions, they will be asked to leave the class. Failure to come prepared to class will result in a 0 for the day and you will not be allowed to sit-in for the class period. If any injuries or medical conditions prevent you from participating in class or participating in certain activities, a doctor’s note will be required and should be given to the instructor in the beginning of class.

IV. What is Expected:

  1. You will have 3 minutes to be dressed and ready, after the bell rings, to begin class.
  2. Please come prepared to class with all materials required for the day.
  3. Please come in proper uniform. Failure to do so will result in a 0 and denial to participate in the class that day.
  4. Please be sure to bring a filled-up water bottle with you and have it filled and ready for class; we will take short water breaks during our workout, as water is essential to your body when exercising.
  5. Once class starts, you will not be allowed to leave to grab any required equipment.
  6. Please do not share equipment.
  7. Sneakers should ALWAYS be present, not just on the days we plan to go outside.

V. Waiver:

The waiver given to you on the first day of class must be signed and returned by the next class. Failure to do so will result in a zero for the day and the coming days until the waiver is submitted. The waiver is also worth a participation grade on its own, and if not handed in on time, you will receive a zero for that grade as well. No exceptions will be made.

VI.Assignments and Grading:Your grade will be based on the following. Assignments are subjected to change. Around 65% of your grade, however, will be solely based on your class participation!

VIII. Academic Dishonesty will not be tolerated and will be dealt with according to the ANAHS Handbook. Anything that looks like cheating, copying, plagiarism, or an unlawful “sharing of answers”/ “working together” will result in a zero for the assignment, a punishment will be received through the school, and parents or guardians will be contacted.

IX. Bullying/Hurtful Commentary towards any student or teacher in the class or backbiting of one in the school will not be tolerated. Any rude comments, attitude, bullying, hurtful comments, or other offences will be taken seriously and will be dealt with according to the ANAHS Handbook.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “You will not enter Paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves.

I look forward to working with you all, InshaAllah! Remember, this is your class and your workout so don’t be afraid to make suggestions. We are blessed to have this all-girl’s, friendly, Muslima environment. Let’s work together to keep it warm, inviting, and comfortable, and use it to help us gain strength and knowledge! Please sign the following, cut on the dotted line and submit the bottom half of this page along with your waiver next class. Get ready for a productive year, and don’t forget to bring your A-game! 
