Venue: Polish Geological Institute, 4 Rakowiecka Street, Warsaw, Poland. The meeting will begin and end in Warsaw. The Symposium residence will be hotel “Kopernik” on the shore of Vistula Lagoon in Frombork, 300 km from Warsaw.

The meeting of the Peribaltic Group and Friends of Baltic Quaternary will be held in the Gdańsk Bay region and the Lower Vistula region in North Poland, September 14 – 19, 2008. The meeting will focus on the stratigraphic framework of glacial/interglacial events during the Pleistocene, history of ice advances and depositional environments during the Weichselian Glaciation, geomorphologic features and evolution of the Gdańsk Bay sea coast. Sections showing the Late Pleistocene formations with special reference to various till, glaciolacustrine and fluvial facies, glaciotectonic deformations and the Late Glacial and Holocene series will be presented. A social programme will include a visit to Frombork Cathedral and the Malbork Castle, and also the boat trip (about 6 hours) through the unique Elbląg-Ostróda Canal.

One day will be devoted to paper and poster presentations and 4 days for the field trip. Colleagues are invited to submit abstracts relevant to the topic of the Symposium. Abstracts will be published in the special issue and should not exceed 2 pages (12 pt, single line spacing) including figures and references. Colour figures are permitted. Further details will be given in the second circular.

The registration fee is preliminarily set at 320 EUR including transportation, accommodation from September 14 to September 19, 2008, full board, excursions and conference materials. A limited support can be provided for young scientists (depending on the amount of participants and financial support of Symposium). Numbers of participants will be no more than 60 persons for the sake of organization (size of the Elbląg-Ostróda Canal boat); it will be decide order of application. More information will be given in the second circular, which will be distributed in March 2008 to those who will preliminarily register.
