FIRE REPORT FOR AREA PANEL PARKLANDS 2010

There has as been a down turn so far this year in large, notable building fires that could have had a significant press interest. But one large fire recently has seen a large Fire service attendance.

A huge bonfire at Dickies Lane Marton involved significant amount of waste material and involved considerable Fire Service resources being tied up for several days. This type of incident, although on a much smaller scale, has seen a rise over the past year from April 2010 to Nov 2010.

Generally most types of fire and their occurrence are down on previous years.

In 2009/10 there were 217 accidental dwelling fires (ADFs), with 2 elderly fatalities in Blackpool District. From April to Nov this year there have been 122 (ADFs) with no reported fatalities. This indicates a 9% reduction in ADF’s so far this year this year.

Statistics indicate that Primary fires are down 18%, deliberate primary fires are down 38% and despite a spike in secondary fires at the beginning of the first quarter of the year, this has now started to reduce and we are 20% down on the same period for last year.

Although fires in the home are down, there is still a huge focus on preventing fire related accidents in the home. The Fire Service can provide a free Home Fire Safety Check, fit smoke alarms if needed and give advice on what to do in the event of fire. Visits will be arranged at a time to suit the person and will be carried out by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service personnel who will show their ID.
