2017 Fleece Show & Sale

Judging : Friday September 15th Exhibition Hall

Judge:

The goal of the Finger Lakes Fiber Arts Fleece Show & Sale is to provide:

1. Producers with the opportunity for the professional evaluation of their wool fiber

2. Producers with a sales venue specifically oriented to fiber artists

3. Handspinners and other fiber artists the opportunity to purchase wool that is

of superior quality and cleanliness.

Divisions:

·  Division I: White Wool Fleeces

o  A. Coated

o  B. Uncoated

·  Division II: Natural-Colored Wool Fleeces

o  A. coated

o  B. Uncoated

Divisions IA, IB, IIA and IIB will each have the following individual classes

Classes:

o  1. Fine: (e.g. Merino, Rambouillet, Targhee)

o  2. Medium: (e.g. Cheviot, Columbia, Corriedale, Tunis)

o  3. Long: (e.g. Cotswold, Leicester, Lincoln, Romney)

o  4. Double Coated/ Primitive: (e.g. Karakul, Navajo-Churro, Icelandic, Shetland)

Entries

·  This competition and sale is for sheep fleeces only

·  Entry fees - $3 per fleece for show only, $6 for show and sale

·  Limit of 10 fleeces per producer

o  Please note – any one farm may only enter 6 fleeces per class

·  Fleeces may be in show only, or both show and sale - NO provision for sale only entries.

·  Fleeces will be judged on suitability for handspinning.

·  Fleeces must be from the current (2016-2017) wool crop and represent no more than

15 months of growth.

·  Fleeces must be clean, free of chaff, burrs, tags, and second cuts.

·  Fleeces must be skirted and in a new, CLEAR plastic bag with no colored drawstring and no labeling on the bag

·  The selling price of fleeces shall be set by the producers

o  Please keep final price in $5 increments to allow for cash buyers

o  Tax liability will be the responsibility of the producer

·  Each fleece must be entered with a 3x5 card folded in half

Judging

·  Judging will be against a standard

·  If the judge feels no fleece in any particular class is of first place quality, no first place will be awarded in that class.

·  Judge reserves right to disqualify any fleece

·  Judge’s decisions are final

·  Exhibitors may not be present during judging

Registration and Delivery of Fleeces

·  Entries can be made day of show

·  Fleeces accepted Friday September 15, 2017 from 12:00pm- 4:00pm in the Exhibition Hall

at the Hemlock Fairgrounds

·  Bring your registration form, fleece(s) and fees with you to check-in. Checks should be made to GVHS

Fleece Show and Sale

·  Judging will begin at 2:00 using the Danish system.

·  Class placings between those entries evaluated as blue quality will take place after all entries have been scored using the Danish System

·  Fleece Sale Hours - Saturday 10am- 5pm and Sunday 10am- 3pm

·  Checks for sold fleeces will be made directly to the exhibitor. GVHS will not take a commission of the sale

·  Fleeces will be in a secure building

·  Unsold fleeces and payment for sold fleeces will be available for pick up from 3:00 - 4:00pm on 9/17/17

·  Unclaimed fleeces will become the property of GVHG
