Overall objective:

FIND’s vision is a world where diagnosis guides the way to health for all people. The FIND team is devoted to driving the development, clinical trialing, and early implementation of innovative diagnostic solutionsthat can have a high impact on patient care and disease control in low-resource settings. The diseases we have been working on include tuberculosis, malaria, sleeping sickness, leishmaniasis, and Chagas diseases. We are now expanding our scope to include acute febrile syndromes, hepatitis C, andneglected diseases mentioned in The London Declaration[1]of 2012. FIND also playsa key catalytic role to ensure that global laboratory networks are prepared for the introduction of new technologies.As the Clinical Officeryou will be working in a team under the supervision of the Head of Tuberculosis Programme.

Job description:

You will be responsible for the management, monitoringand implementation ofdiagnostics clinical studies primarily within the tuberculosis programme but possibly expanding to other disease programmes as well. The specific activities will include but not be limited to:

  • Overseeing and managing projects and ensuring progress towards pre-determined goals. Primary focus of projects: evaluation and demonstration studies that enable WHO review and global/national policy making and specimen collection
  • Establish/maintain links with academic institutions, industry partners and other institutions (incl. travel for meetings with partners)
  • Conducting site evaluation, training and monitoring (including travel to sites) to review study progress and ensure that high-quality data is collected
  • Regularly updating supervisor (Head of TB Programme) and other project managers on the progress and difficulties experienced
  • Communicating FIND’s achievements through publications and scientific presentations
  • Supporting the access team with operational research
  • Writing and supporting the writing of publications and scientific presentations (incl. travel for presentations)
  • Contributing to grant proposal development

Requirements:

  • Post-graduate knowledge and clear understanding of TB and related public health issues. A good understanding of other infectious disease would be an added benefit.
  • Strong scientific background in epidemiology, clinical trials,
  • At least 1 year experience in clinical trial planning, execution and monitoring, preferably with diagnostics trials
  • Relevant experience working in low and middle-income countries.
  • Knowledge in databases for clinical trialing and sample banking
  • Ability to work without close supervision, as well as to work under pressure and meet tight timelines on a result-oriented basis.
  • Willingness to expand knowledge base and take on new topics.
  • Work well in teams of multi-cultural backgrounds; effective communication.
  • Superior problem solving skills.
  • Represent the FIND strategy and goal of being an honest, transparent broker in the global health field.
  • Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Team oriented.
  • Fluent in English, with a track record in publishing. Working knowledge in French and Spanish would be an asset
