Financial Statement/Annual Report Project:

Worth 25 points if completed on time.

1) Think of a company that you are interested in work at. Your selection of a company should provide some insight into things you are interested in as a career, etc.

The company needs to be a manufacturer, wholesaler, or retailer that has inventory.

The company CANNOT be an insurance company, an investment, a bank, a utility, an energy company or a foreign company as their financial information will be presented differently than the material we are covering in class. The companies that will work best are retailers and manufacturers.

2) You MUST get approval from Moloney in PERSON (IF you don’t = minus 3 points) BEFORE you select your company or send away for the financial statements. (This is because some companies will not have the accounts in their financial statements that we are going to cover in this class).

3) Then go to the company website or www.prars.com or the Wall Street Journal or the company’s website.

If you go to the company’s website you need to look for INVESTORS’ RELATIONS and then the ANNUAL REPORT. If you cannot find INVESTORS’ RELATIONS or something very similar – they are probably NOT a publicly traded company and you have to select another company.

4) You need to get them to send you a copy of the ANNUAL REPORT – not an electronic or downloaded copy. This maybe more challenging than you realize. On some companies it will be difficult to find how to get them to send you one. Others will only let download a copy (which is not acceptable for this project).

NOTE: You CANNOT get your annual report from someone else in class. They can’t give you one of theirs or an extra copy they have. You must go through the process of ordering it yourself.

5) Hand it on the due date on the assignment sheet and then keep the financial statements/annual report with you for the REST OF THE SEMESTER. Each class that you do NOT have it equals a 1 point deduction from your score on this project.

Make sure you allow plenty of time for the report to get to you. Some times they take several weeks, occasionally they never arrive.

Having the annual report ordered, but yet received does NOT constitute completion of the assignment.

Grading:

-  3 points/ - 7 points (starting fall 16): Not getting approved financial statements or ordering before approval.

-  2 points: Late. This is the minimum off for being late. The later it is done, the more points deducted.

-  1 point : Each class that you do NOT have the annual report with you.
