Finance Director – Amcor

BASIC FUNCTION:

•Provide overall leadership and direction for the Finance function of AFSA, towards meeting financial and other business objectives.

•Responsible for all aspects of financial management and control of the AFSA business.

•Once first year’s integration tasks are complete and the Business case results are being met, transition to further responsibilities, reporting to the Director SSA in supporting the growth and development of the Amcor business in the Sub Saharan African region.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

As Finance Director AFSA:

During the initial phase the key objective for this role is for AFSA to be integrated within the overall policies, systems and processes which govern the Company’s financial management and control. Specifically:

•Implement systems and processes to set, measure, monitor and report progress of the organisation’s financial objectives and other key performance indicators vs targets agreed with the Business Group.

•Play an active role as a key business partner within the AFSA Management Team, working closely and establishing positive working relationships with the other key managers in the organisation.

•Ensure adherence at all times in all parts of the business to the Corporate and Business Group Finance Policies and adopted accounting standards, ensuring reporting is at all time compliant with these policies and standards.

•Provide timely and accurate financial information and decision making support to the management team in order to enable sound and well- informed business decisions. Develop meaningful performance measurements, reports and tools which enable results and trends to be easily interpreted and understood.

•Reduce and control working capital through implementation of cash and inventory management processes, and the close monitoring and management of payables and receivables.

• Assist in the preparation, review and approval of all capital plans and expenditure. Monitor and measure capital spend and capital expenditure effectiveness against original capital approval conditions.

•Review the commercial and financial aspects and impacts of key customer contracts, ensuring risks and compliance issues are flagged, and understood by responsible managers prior to commitments being made.

•Ensure the business conducts regular assessments of financial and other risks, identifying alternative solutions and contingency plans to mitigate and eliminate such risks.

•Implement and monitor control systems which safeguard the company’s assets and financial position.

•Manage cash to ensure the protection of funds, quick availability, and control over foreign currency exposure, in line with the Business Group policy and requirements.

•Ensure optimisation of AFSA Tax and Treasury needs, and alignment with Amcor Group Strategies such as Tax planning, Cash Management and Hedging execution, by working in collaboration with the Amcor Tax and Treasury Functions

•Lead and influence the annual budgeting and strategic planning processes and the monthly forecasting process for the AFSA Business.

•Lead and monitor the monthly and annual AFSA financial closing process together with a tight interaction with the Business Group Finance Group.

•Drive annual cost saving initiatives and implement a monthly process which monitors and reports progress against these initiatives and their targets.

• Create an environment of continuous improvement of financial systems and processes, constantly seeking to improve the accuracy and meaningfulness of financial reports and forecasts.

•Plan and budget for the necessary organisation and staffing for the AFSA Finance team, including as required recruitment, training and development, with the goal of developing a world class financial function.

•Ensure that the Finance team are highly motivated, proud of their contribution and highly engaged through a culture of Outperformance, and a positive and productive working environment.

•Establish succession planning for key financial management positions in the Finance organisation and training/developmental opportunities for the finance staff.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

•An undergraduate degree in finance and accounting is required; MBA would be a plus.

• Solid understanding of IAS and Internal Controls.

•The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of financial management experience with thorough understanding of sales, marketing, supply chain and manufacturing operations in a dynamic, environment where cost control is a characteristic of the business.

•Past experience of M&A, analysis, due diligence reporting, business integration planning and implementation would be an asset.

•High level of energy, used to fast pace working. Must be a change agent, who likes to move things forward. Persistent and energetic but at the same time also patient and humble in approach when appropriate.

•Must be technically strong, especially in operating finance (financial planning & analysis, costing, accounting and reporting, operating reviews, etc.). In addition, as important is the ability to provide sound business judgment and strategic thinking.

• Cultural awareness. Is used to and likes to work in an international environment.

•Commercial and business awareness.

•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to rapidly establish credibility and trust with a broad range of individuals within and outside the company.

•Proven track record of developing strong finance organisations with a focus on succession planning.
