Logo Competition

OVERVIEW

The New Zealand Embassy in Bangkok and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs are organising a variety of activities throughout 2016 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of bilateral relations between Thailand and New Zealand.

We would like to invite members of the public to submit designs to our Logo Design Competition, under the theme of “NewZealand-Thailand, Looking to the Future.”

The winner will receive a grand prize of Thai Airways round-trip flights for two from Bangkok to Auckland, NewZealand to undertake a week of free English language training sponsored by Auckland University of Technology. The winning design will also be used as the official logo of the 60th anniversary for all activities and materials organised by the New Zealand Embassy and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to mark the occasion.

Logo designs must be sent to before midnight on Friday 18 March. All entries must be in JPEG format, between 3MB-5MB in size. The email must include the designer’s preferred contact phone numberand email address, as well as a short (few sentences) description of their design.

The prize presentation will take place at an official reception to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Thailand and New Zealand on 29th March 2015 at Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Logo Competition Details

SUBMISSION

  1. Logo designs should be formatted to a jpeg file at least 3MB but not larger than 5MB.
  2. Designs should be emailed to fore midnight on Friday 18 March 2016. Late entries will not be considered.
  3. The entry email must include the designer’s preferred contact phone number and email address, as well as a short (few sentences) description of their design.

SELECTION PANEL

The logo submissions shall be judged by a panel comprised of members of the New Zealand Embassy in Bangkokand the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, and honourable invited judges. The panel shall select the winning logo on the basis of originality, graphic quality and promotional potential of the 60th anniversary logo (ref. design brief below). The jury shall advise of the winning logo onTuesday 22March 2016.

AWARD

The winner will receive Thai Airways round-trip flights for two from Bangkok, Thailand to Auckland, NewZealand and one week of English Language Training at Auckland University of Technology (details below).

Included:(for two people)

  • Tax and surcharges of airplane tickets
  • Course fees for a week of English Language study at Auckland University ofTechnology
  • University registration fee
  • Visa fees
  • Accommodation (this will cover the weekend prior to the language course and

theweekend following the language course, i.e. 9 days).

  • Meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner)
  • Cost of health and travel insurance

Not included:

  • Per diems/incidental costs/spending money (including extra costs associated with

the accommodation or university that are not included above, such as phone calls

etc.).

Programme for the week of study includes:

  • 23 hours of study total during the week
  • 3 hours of General English class; 8am-11.00am, Mon–Fri (covering grammar, vocab,

listening, speaking, reading, writing)

  • 1.5 hours of elective class;11.20am–12.50pm, Mon–Thurs (with elective choices

such as Speaking and Listening Skills /Writing Skills/ IELTS preparation)

  • 2 hours timetabled independent study in ILC and Computer Lab withclass and

teacher

  • Opportunity to join Friday afternoon social activity programme

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The contest is open to everyoneaged 18yrs or over and participation is on an individual basis.
  2. The panel shall select only one logo per participant, but participants are free to submit up to four logos.
  3. Logo design for this competition cannot give rise to any claim for financial compensation.
  4. Any person submitting a logo proposal for this contest certifies that he/she is the designer. He/she certifies furthermore that said logo does not infringe on the rights of any third party and is not in violation of any copyright.The logo must never have received any previous awards.[Note: the NewZealand Inc “silver fern” image (see top left corner at the following link: ) is a protected trademark. The use of this as part of a design could involve a breach of copyright unless it is sufficiently different from the original].
  5. The winner will be required to submit a print ready version of their logo design (e.g. 300dpi file) with a signature attesting to the originality of their artwork.
  6. The winner shall be informed directly by the New Zealand Embassy by telephone or email and invited to a prize‐winning ceremony at the Thailand-New Zealand 60th Anniversary Reception which will be held on the 29th March 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The winning logo and the winner’s name and photo may be used by Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the New Zealand Embassy, Bangkok, and Auckland University of Technology for promotional purposes relating to the competition.
  7. In order to claim the prize, the winner must relinquish all intellectual property rights and ownership of the winning entry to the NewZealand Embassy in Bangkok and the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
  8. In order to claim the prize, the winner(and travel companion) must be able to meet all usual visa and travel requirements; must have no criminal record or pending convictions and must be aged 18yrs or over.
  9. The prize must be redeemed before 31 December 2016. Prize-winner must provide 8 weeks’notice to the event organisers of their intent to redeem the prize.
  10. The Selection Panel’s decision on any matter with respect to the competition is final.
  11. If the panel considers that there have not been sufficient submissions or that none is acceptable, the contest shall be cancelled. No protest and/or claim by competitors shall be possible.

DESIGN BRIEF

  • The objective of the competition is to find a design that can be used as the official logo for the NewZealand-Thailand 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, which takes place over the year 2016.
  • The theme is “NewZealand-Thailand: Looking to the Future.” The winning logo must incorporate NewZealand and Thailand in some way and must be clearly identifiable as a logo for activities to celebrate 60 years of friendship. It should include the number “60” in the design in some way.
  • Any additional design elements should reflect the future of the relationship between NewZealand and Thailand at a government, business, cultural and people-to-people level.
  • As well as meeting the above criteria, the design should be innovative and modern with clear shapes and colour.
  • The activities organised by the NewZealand Embassy and Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the 60th anniversary season will be targeted at a broad spectrum of society: government, business people, students and the general public. The winning design must be appropriate for this broad target audience.
  • The graphic artist’s identity must not appear on the logo itself.
