Assignment #9

Publisher

Using Publisher:

In this task you will be:

1) Creating a flyer using Publisher

2) Creating a tri-fold brochure using Publisher

3) Creating an email containing a letter of introduction and attaching the flyer and brochure.

Step One: Planning Your Marketing Strategy

Imagine you’re working for as a loan officer, mortgage broker, appraiser, property manager or real estate agent. Start by thinking about how you might like to market your services and begin to write some narrative that you might use in a brochure or flyer. (i.e. what your company does, what its slogan or logo might be, what services it offers, who would be interested in purchasing your services, what your selling points are that would differentiate it from your competition, etc. You might want to use Word to do this and then save that document on your personal storage device. (Remember where you’ve placed it so that you can refer back to it.)

Remember: Planning and strategizing are the most difficult parts of this process. If you do a good job of thinking through your design and layout and the message you want to deliver, then implementing it will be easy!

Step Two: Using Publisher to Create Marketing Materials

A. Use Publisher to create an informational tri-fold brochure(both pages)to use as a marketing tool for the company and its services. Think about the types of information you’d like to include, what would be engaging and interesting to your potential clients and what would really “sell” them on you! Think about the graphics, clipart, and visuals that you’d like to include to support your narrative. Remember that you can also perform a bing or google search to find graphics.

You have 6 panes to work with (3 on each page) so think about what info. should appear where, knowing that the pages will be folded in thirds. (You may want to print the template off first and then put the two pages back-to-back and fold in thirds. Then sketch out what info. you’d like to place on each panel. This will allow you to visualize it better before you begin.)

Be sure to include your name and contact info.

B. Use Publisher to create an information flyer. Its purpose is to provide a little background on you and your qualifications and what your company has to offer. It should have a nice, warm marketing tone, appropriate graphics in-keeping with the business and services you have to offer.

Be sure to include your name and contact info.

Note: In your flyer and brochure, do not leave any default graphics found in the template. They are there simply to show you where to place your graphics!

C. Email – When you are done, email me a message from your class Outlook account to as if I am a potential client and this is your email of introduction. Tell me a little about yourself, your business, and how you can help me. Your narrative should have a strong, positive, professional marketing tone. Also include what I should do if I’d like to take the next step in working with you, etc. This introductory email should contain at least a couple of paragraphs of good, strong narrative.

Attach the brochure and flyer as attachments to the email. And include a signature file that uses color and includes your name and the name of your company, its address, and your contact phone number.

D. Print Outs – Print out copies of the brochure (both pages), the flyer and a copy of your email to me.

In addition to the requirements listed above, your work will be evaluated based on thoughtful nicely toned, well-written narrative (that’s void of typo’s) and the effective use/layout of the materials presented. Your graphics and narrative should work together to set the tone and convey the message intended. Your work shouldn’t feel just “thrown together to get it done” but rather should reflect a well thought out design. It should demonstrate a solid effort in finding and displaying information that would capture the audience’s attention. Feel free to surf the web to assist you in finding information that you’d like to display. Just to give you some ideas, students in the past have included such things as ferry schedules, sightseeing tips, interesting facts about the community they were targeting, a “Letterman’s top 10 tips on” on what sellers should do to make their homes more sell-able, a list of average home prices in the greater Seattle area broken down by neighborhood etc. Be creative, use your imagination and include content that would be of interest to your target audience.
