JOB DESCRIPTION

The Speech-Language Pathologist, under the supervision of the Lead Related Services Specialist, plans and provides speech-language pathology services to students with speech, voice, or language disorders. Assesses students and provides therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with their students’ ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Valid Texas License as a speech-language therapist granted by the Texas Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
  • Ability to use accepted tests and measurement tools to assess communication disorders.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) or Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) considered
  • Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders.
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • External candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by employee

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and provide appropriate individual and group therapy to students consistent with speech and language goals contained in the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
  • Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  • Supervise Speech Therapy Assistants once approved by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology/Speech Therapy Assistants
  • Conduct independent evaluations to assess students with speech or language disorders to determine eligibility for services.
  • Develop clinical management strategies or guidelines and diagnostic statements by interpreting observation or data.
  • Participate in the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee to assist with interpreting data, appropriate placement, and development of the Individual Education Plans for students with communication disorders or conditions according to co-op procedures.
  • Counsel and involve parents in remedial process.
  • Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students.
  • Provide support and training to assigned schools to help personnel identify and understand communication deficits in students.
  • Consult with relevant persons regarding the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
  • Create a learning environment that meets the maturity level and interest of students.
  • Ensure timelines are met by compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.
  • Develop and coordinate continuing evaluation of speech-language pathology services and make adjustments based on findings.
  • Assist in the selection of equipment and instructional materials.
  • Willing to take on various roles and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with diverse administration, staff, parents, students, and related service providers.

  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Occasional light lifting and carrying of test and instructional materials.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to move small stacks of text books, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment.
  • May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities.
