“filled up on living water”

John 4:1 – 26

This morning, we investigate the concept of Living Water and the power of Jesus as the Living God. ______

  • Every living thing requires water. Water makes up a significant portion of the human body both by weight and by volume: approximately 75%. ______

______

  • During the time of Christ, Israel was divided into three territorial regions: Galilee (in the north), Judaea (in the south), with Samaria in the middle. ______

______

  • Look at v4, it declares that Jesus > “Must needs go through Samaria.” The only problem with going through Samaria was the centuries of feuding between the Jews and the Samaritans. ____

  • The Bible teaches that even Jesus became weary, hungry, and thirsty. Yet, John’s Gospel confirms that Jesus is The Word with God and is The Word as God. ______

  • The Word of God makes plain that Jesus instructs the Samaritan Woman in the truth about Herself, about God, and about Worship. In this encounter with the Woman at the Well, Jesus offers each of us Living Water and shows Himself as The Real Thirst Quencher. ______

  • Jesus’ mission of compassion and helpfulness is to seek and to save the lost. Jesus’ love is to help us overcome our problems and to change our predicament, perspective, and paradigm.

  • In v18, Jesus brought up that the woman had five ex-husbands and a current live-in boyfriend.

  • Jesus exposes and condemns her sin in effect helping her without branding her a failure. ______

______

  • If you have been trying to find satisfaction in life through anything or anyone besides Jesus Christ, you will always come away thirsty. Jesus instructs the woman in the truth about God, imparting knowledge about worship > “But the hour is come...”[v23] and “God is Spirit...”[v24] ______

  • Only Jesus can give you “Living Water.” ______
