Fifth Grade Classroom Economy Job Descriptions

Read each description carefully before making a choice.

Remember, you will have the same job for the entire marking period!

Banker ($550)– You will be responsible for classmates’ accounts. You will keep a log of their deposits and withdrawals. You must have a strong math background and possess the characteristics of honesty and dependability.

Custodian ($600)– You will be responsible for the general care, maintenance, and organization of the classroom. This includes making sure the supplies are properly put away and group bins are filled, floors and cubbies are clean, and boards are erased (check with teacher for what should be erased). You must be a neat and organized student.

Teacher’s Assistant ($650)– You will be assisting your teacher with collecting/distributing materials and other classroom responsibilities. You must be an honest and respectful student.

Messenger ($550)– You will be responsible for conducting the lunch count and attendance each day. Additionally, you will be responsible for taking papers to the office as needed. You must be reliable.

Technology ($550)– You will be responsible for the computers in the lab and in the classroom. In the classroom, you will be responsible for troubleshooting small problems (adding paper to the printer, for example). You must be good with computers and willing to help others.

Librarian ($600)– You will be responsible for checking books in and out of the class library for your classmates. Also, you will make sure that books find their way back to the right location in the class library. When asked, you will help students select books. You must have a love of books, and you must be organized.

Botanist ($550)– You will be responsible for watering the flowers each day that they are needed. You must be dependable and responsible.

Class Captain ($550)– You will be in charge of checking and signing classmates’ assignment books at the end of the day. In addition, you will make sure that they have the necessary materials ready before going home. Also, you will be the line leaders and line enders, modeling appropriate behavior. You must be responsible and possess excellent leadership skills.

Lead Announcer ($650)– Every other week, you will be responsible for the writing delivery of the morning and afternoon announcements. You must be a creative writer and an excellent public speaker.

Chef ($600)– You will be responsible for the distribution of the daily snack. You will write a letter to parents to let them know when snacks are low, and you will change cups when needed. You must be neat, and you must enjoy food!

Host/Hostess ($500)–When visitors enter the room (anyone who is not from our class, you greet them. If the guest is to be introduced to the entire class (check with teacher) you will ring the chimes. You will then introduce the visitor. You will treat visitors respectfully and show them around the room if instructed by the teacher. You must be friendly and reliable.

Animal Care Attendant ($550)– Your job is to feed the fish every day. You will also make sure that water levels and chemicals are added when needed. You must be responsible and enjoy animals.

Pencil Patrol ($700)–You will collect pencil boxes, sharpen pencils, enclose notes and write details for teacher about each student’s box, and return pencil boxes to each student’s desk. You should be responsible and able to work quickly and quietly.
