About the Indian Ocean Rim Association 2015

Indonesia is pleased to host the Fifteenth Meeting of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers and other related meetings on 20-23 October 2015 in Jakarta and Padang, with details as follows:

20 October: IORA Business Forum (Jakarta)

21-22 October: IORA Senior Official Meetings

23 October: IORA Council of Ministers

IORA is a framework of cooperation between 20 countries in the rim of the Indian Ocean. The twenty members of IORA are Australia, Bangladesh, Comoros, India, Indonesia, Seychelles, Iran, Kenya, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Oman, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The association focuses on cooperation in the field of maritime safety and security, trade and investment and facilities, fisheries management, disaster risk management, education and technology and tourism and cultural exchanges.

Indonesia underlines the importance of connectivity in order to bridge and integrate mutual interest among the states in the rim of the Indian Ocean. More importantly, the establishment of connectivity in the Indian Ocean would be able to connect people in various regions. Thus, Indonesia with its chairmanship in IORA would seize this opportunity to elevate cooperation in the Indian Ocean.

Media Registration

All member of the press covering the meeting must register online by sending the registration form that is available at iora.kemlu.go.id.

Media registration will be opened from 14 September – 14 October 2015.

Please provide us with your complete details including documents as follows:

  • Letter of assignment from your media company
  • Valid ID such as passport and national ID card (KTP)
  • Photo (passport size, 200 Kb and type: jpg/png.bmp)

All documents must be compressed into RAR/ZIP format.

Please note that incomplete and late registration will not be processed.

Visa and customs clearance (Foreign Journalists)

Applicants who are based outside of Indonesia are required to print and bring along a copy of confirmation letter to apply for a journalist visa at the nearest Indonesian Embassy/Mission. List of Indonesian Embassies/Missions are available at

The application will be processed in accordance with applicable regulation, please note that confirmation letter does not guarantee issuance of visa.

The list of equipments that will be brought by applicants must be legalized by the nearest Indonesian Embassy/Representative office for importation and exportation purposes.

Issuance of Accreditation Pass (ID)

ID pass will be issued at the registration centre located at Jl. Purus IV, Padang Bar., Kota Padang, Sumatera Barat, on 19 – 22 Oktober 2015 at 10.00 – 17.00 pm.

To collect the ID pass, applicants are required to print and bring along a copy of the confirmation letter.

ID must be worn and made visible at all times.

Official media

Organizing Committee will only provide onsite registration for official media that has been registered through delegate registration.

Media pool

In the event when space availability does not permit, a media pool may be applied.

Media Centre and logistical details

Media Centre will be established in the surrounding area of Hotel Mercure, Padang. The location of the media center will be announced through iora.kemlu.go.id when it is available.

  • Opening hours for the media centre are from 08.00 to 19.00 from 21-23 October 2015.
  • The media centre will be equipped with Wi-Fi, press conference room, printers, power plugs and photocopiers.
  • The media centre will also provide adequate working space.
  • Help desk will be available in the media centre from 21-23 October 2015.
  • Refreshments will be made available at the Media Centre.
  • News releases, selected documentation; including statements, speeches and/or announcements will also be available at the media centre.

The Media Secretariat at the Media Centre will arrange Press Conferences on a case-by-case basis.

Accomodation and Travel arrangements

Member of the press will be responsible for their own travel arrangements, reservation and payment of hotel/accommodation. Thus, we suggest for member of the press to make reservation as early as possible.

Jakarta at glance

Capital of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta is a huge, sprawling metropolitan city with a population of more than 9 million people. Jakarta is the seat of national government as well as seat of the provincial government of Greater Jakarta. Here is also the national Parliament, the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court. Jakarta is also the center of Indonesia’s modern music and sound, and center of Indonesia’s lively creative industry. It is no wonder, therefore, that whatever happens in Jakarta is national interest and it is for these reasons that Jakarta is the hub of Indonesia’s modern history and modern life.

Padang at glance

Padang is the largest city in the Western Part of Sumatera that also serves as the capital of West Sumatera Province. Padang also serves as the gravity of economic, politics, leisure and center of education in Western Sumatera.

Padang could easily be reached within two hours flight from Jakarta where most major local Indonesian airlines provide direct flights to Padang. Several international airlines also provide direct flights to Padang from their home base city, such as Kuala Lumpur.

General info on climate and local time

Indonesia has a tropical climate with high humidity. The average temperature is 24-31o Celcius or 75-87o Fahrenheit.

Indonesia is divided into three time zones:

  • Western Indonesian Time (GMT+7): Sumatra, Java, West and Central Kalimantan.
  • Central Indonesian Time (GMT+8): Bali, Sulawesi, Small Sunda Islands, East and South Kalimantan.
  • Eastern Indonesian Time (GMT+9): Maluku and Papua.

Attire

Member of the press are not allowed to wear jeans, T-Shirt and sneakers at all venues during their coverage of the Indian Ocean Rim Association 2015.
