Feedback report for the Help for Oklahoma Mobile Application

Application URL:

Test Date:5/23/2013

Test Time: From about 10:00 AM EST to about 12:00PM EST

Test device: iPhone 4S (compared with desktop version as necessary) - Brett

On the “create an account page,” if the user selects “verify using audio,” the audio player does not load.

I was able to get the audio player to load and work on a PC, but it says the letters using the nato-phonetic alphabet (ex: Sierra-Quebec-Yankee-Victor-Kilo for SQYVK), and this is not explained anywhere on the page, which will probably lead to some users trying to enter “Sierra” instead of the letter S.

Also on the account page, the explanatory text associated with the “word verification” only applies to the “verify using image” option. When the user selects “verify using audio,” the directions for the “verify using image” functionality are still displayed.

On the “I Need Housing” page, when a user selects multiple criteria from the “I need a house that would” options, all housing options with any of the criteria are displayed instead of displaying only the houses that meet all of the selected criteria.

On the “I need Housing” page, the user can submit a form with no data as long as they select a value from the “length of stay” drop down menu.

On the “Give Housing” page, there is no option for “Allow Kids,” though this option does exist as a criteria on the “I Need Housing” page.

On the “Create a Request to Stay” page, there is a drop down for the user’s country. This seems unnecessary, especially since there isn’t a state or zip code field, implying that all locations should be in Oklahoma.

On the “Create a Request to Stay” page in the “I need a house that” section, there is not option for “Allows Children.” However, If you go to the “I Need Housing” page, there is an option in the “I need a house that would: Allow Children.”

On the “Create a Ride Request” page, the user can select that they prefer to be contacted by “Phone,” “Email,” or “Text” and submit the form without entering a value in either the email or phone field.

On the “Create a Ride Request” page, users can select states other than Oklahoma for the “Current Location” section.

On the “Create a Ride Request” page, the user can submit the form without entering any data.

PC and - Barrington

Application does not work in IE 8

When user clicks the “Give Housing” they are taken to a screen similar to when someone is requesting a place to stay, instead of the login or create an account page.

  1. The Navigation menu on the mobile devices only work on device with IOS 6.1 and up
  2. The text “Please select all that apply” for the option list is displayed below the list.
  3. The Apply button is inline with the 1st item in the option list not at the bottom of the form
  4. The results are displayed before the user selects any of the options available

PC Comments- Janet

Issue 1

Display of pages are different in IE8

IE8

Chrome

Issue 2

Main Menu toggle does not work in CHROME, IE8

IE8

Chrome

ISSUE 3

“Give Housing” link is not clear. Maybe “Housing Available” “Need a House”.

ISSUE 4

“I NEED a Ride” link takes you to establish a user account does now take you to do not give clear explanation of why you landed there???

Issue 5

On the “I Need Housing” and “Give Housing” page all the responses at the bottom show at the bottom. Should they display after the screening questions. Also it may be helpful to have a “See All Box” and a “City Box” (ie Location Moore Lenter plus if there are other cities in OK if it is only two a radio button could be used) This would make the list

Issue 6

Selection boxes are not giving true applied responses. Selected “Allow Children” and “Have Cats” but the “Jared Township” does not state they accept Cats”

Issue 7

No edit is available if no check box is marked and “Apply is selected”.

Issue 8

Ride Request is not very clear (i.e 596?, 586?). Maybe a dropdown list

Ride Request for: (work, illness, disability, prescriptions, groceries, other)

Ride From: Ride To:

Level of URGENCY

Suggestions

Things to make the selection process easier. It would make it easier to complete when a person is looking for housing. Since it

Family Size (Provide how many people space is needed for) (drop down box with number)

Allow Children

Allow Animals

Number of Animals

Type of Animals (Dog, Cat, Bird, other)

Size of Animal (Small/Medium/Large)

Handicap Accessible (type of Handicaps no steps/wide doorways/ramp on outside/breathing problems)

Internet Available

Housing does not have Pets

Miscellaneous Comments - Janet

Housing should be something simple like this but it need to add Pets and Handicap Assessable needs.

Check that one out

They also need to have a baseline application for emergency needs after earthquake, hurricane and tornado as well as unexplained disaster.

I’m sure that all for have various other needs but the main are

Housing (family and pets)

Medical Needs

Rides

Location of special setups

Dry ice

Phone chargers stations

By having a template ready it can be modified by state, county or city.

Main Menu Issues:

1)The vertical view on a device has text boxes that run off of the background image. This is solved turning the device horizontally, but on every device tested, the background was ‘short’ on a vertical display (screenshot below shows “User account” page, but this occurs on every page).

2)It is not clear that the header text “Help for Oklahoma” is a clickable link at the top of each page. This could be clearer by building it into a headerwrap (discussed further in #3).

3)Suggestion - The headerwrap only consists of a drop-down menu navigation that only works in iOS6 (as mentioned in others defects). Typically, the headerwrap would include the menu as a widget. See screenshot example below for RI.gov. Upon clicking this, it opens up a vertical menu displaying the site navigation (main pages).

4)Suggestion – The headerwrap could include the menu widget on one side (box with three lines) and the a) phone widget and/or b) user settings widget (gear icon) on the other side. The phone widget could include a list of helpful contacts, such as:

  1. Examples:
  2. FEMA
  3. Red Cross
  4. Local Shelters
  5. Local Food Kitchens
  6. Charging Stations
  7. Etc.

5)Suggestion – Slogan text “Coordinate ride shares and host people who need a place to sleep” could be punctuated and centered to look better on responsive-design level.

General:

1)The “I Need a Ride” link is the only one that makes the user fill out account information first. The other selections take the user right to the filtering process.

2)The “I Need” selections are built on an “OR” instead of “AND” structure. This means that if a user goes to “I Need Housing”, selects “Allow Children” and “Handicapped Accessible”, it will show results based on allowing children OR handicapped accessible. This should be AND as you are narrowing down results.

3)Suggestion - Minimal navigation throughout the application. It would be nice if a back button was implemented throughout.

4)The “Create a Request to Stay” does not appear to have many redball indicators (and very minimal input is required to put a posting out. Therefore, a user could select “Number of People” and “Length of Stay” and create a barebones listing/post. They could also include “Contact by Phone” and not include a phone number, as well as the same behavior for “Text” and “Email” (without an email address).

5)As mentioned above, the same behavior is apparent for “Create Ride Request”. User can just have default information entered.

6)You can create a “Ride Request”, then with the same User, “Give a Ride” to that same ride request.

7)Currently there is no direct link to the Users Account page.

8)No apparent way to logout.

User Account Page:

1)Audio Verification does not work on mobile devices when creating an account.

2)The Bookmarks tab under the Users Profile does not seem to be useful for anything.

3)The HybridAuth tab under the Users Profile does not seem to be useful for anything.

4)No clear way to exit the user information screen.

5)If a user adds a Picture on a mobile device (seen on both Android and iOS) and then clicks “Save”, the “Picture” section disappears (they can’t add or edit the picture). This does not occur on PC.
