Arley Johnson - Executive Director
Arley Johnson is the Executive Director of Advocates for The Other America (AFTOA). He assists in building advocacy coalitions consisting of non-profits, industrial, utilities, trade associations, and other partnering organizations interested in supporting low income issues and legislation.
Arley has political experience as a State Delegate for six years in the West Virginia State Legislature and served on the City Council of Huntington West Virginia for six years. His other government experience includes two years of service to the Governor’s Office of West Virginia as Director of the State Workforce Investment Board and eight years as Director of Programs in the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity.
Arley was the 1987 recipient of the West Virginia Martin Luther king Jr. Holiday Commission Living the Dream Award for the advocacy of freedom, presented by Governor Arch A. Moore Jr. and in 2007 was appointed to serve as Chairperson of the West Virginia Interagency Council on Homelessness by Governor Joe Manchin.
Arley holds a B.A. in General Studies from Marshall University with minors in Political Science, Journalism, and Sociology in addition to postgraduate work in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations.
