About APR:

Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter Public School (APR) is a free, public school offering a rigorous college preparatory program to 525 students in 5th through 12th grade. For 21 years, APR has been committed to serving students of Boston – our students come primarily from Mattapan, Roxbury, Dorchester, and Hyde Park – with the goal of closing the opportunity and achievement gap. We operate as an integrated middle and high school and provide extensive college placement and alumni supports, and our work is grounded in the belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels.

APR is guided by three foundational principles:

Foster StudentAgency. Our mission is to empower the range of learners in our building, many of whom are underachieving and/or school dependent. Our goal is that our graduates are independent learners with strong intellective capacity to tackle any challenge and pursue every opportunity.

Fight for Equity. We are united in our belief in equity. As a society we have the responsibility to educate all children, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, ability, or sexuality. Each day we work to eliminate gaps in opportunity and achievement, to teach children to be accepting of others, to be advocates for themselves, and to be agents of change.

Live our Values. Our learning environment is built and sustained every day by adults in order to achieve our vision of equity for students. All of us live our values: Kaizen (continual improvement), Gambatte (perseverance), Purpose, Respect, Integrity, Daring, and Excellence – KG PRIDE.

Our students:

-11% of our students are English Learners

-25% of our students are supported by an IEP

-To date, 100% of our high school students have passed MCAS

-To date, 70% of our alumni have graduated from college, as compared to less than 15% of their demographic peers nation-wide.
