Student Audition Process

The music ministry at Friendswood Community Church is an exciting place to serve.

The nature of our ministry requires an appropriate level of musical ability and aptitude in each participant. In addition to musical skills, it is essential for team members to demonstrate a commitment to spiritual growth.

  • If you would like to audition, complete an application at
  • Audition requirements:
  • Singers: Choose 1 or 2 songs that you are comfortable with and best demonstrate your vocal strengths. Prepare to sing them with a CD or tape accompaniment track from memory. Tracks can be found at the local Christian bookstores (like Lifeway) and even downloaded from iTunes.
  • Instrumentalists: You will be sent some music selected by the audition panel (worship choruses, special music, etc. applicable to the instrument). You can also play a solo piece that demonstrates your abilities.
  • Follow-Up – You will be contacted within a few days of the audition. You will either be asked to join the team, asked to work on some specific areas and re-audition, or redirected to another ministry area.

If you have any questions about the student music ministry or the audition process, please call Mark Hail at 409-370-1386, or email him at .

Student Music Team Guidelines

Friendswood Community Church

These guidelines will establish 1) the mission of the Student Music Ministry; 2) what is required to join the Student Music Team and 3) what it essential in carrying out the mission of the church as it pertains to the Student Music Ministry.

Worship Team Criteria

The following are a list of criteria indicating the preferred qualifications for a member of the Student Music Team at FCC:
1. Pursue a Christ-Honoring Lifestyle - All believers are called to be ambassadors for Christ, not just on Sundays, but at all times. Those who are given the responsibility of standing before others to lead them as a teacher, worship leader, band member, or otherwise, have an even greater responsibility to live out the call of being a “fully devoted follower of Christ.” This requirement is not meant to be a means of judging anyone, nor should it prompt anyone to legalistically evaluate their or anyone’s walk with God. It’s about a commitment to spiritual growth by abiding in Christ (John 15). Several key points:

  • All Band Members should be investing in their spiritual growth with other people on a regular basis.
  • All Band Members will protect the unity of the team and the church by committing to model Christ-like relationships and to pursue conflict resolution in a Christ-honoring manner.

2. Musical Ability – Team members should be able to demonstrate sufficient ability to play/sing by ear, read music and chord charts, and memorize music/lyrics. Vocalists should be able to hear or learn harmonies. An audition process will seek to affirm each individual who wishes to join the team while assessing their preparedness to join the team. Those auditioning may be asked to work on some areas and re-audition at a later date. They may also be redirected to another area of ministry. Those who join the team will be encouraged to participate at a level appropriate to their skill level.

Musicians and vocalists should be open to receive advice, correction, training, and should have a personal commitment to becoming proficiently skilled at their ministry. "Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it". (1 Chronicles 15:22 NIV)

3. Time commitment – Rehearsals and personal preparation before each rehearsal and service are absolutely essential. In addition, there are seminars, special retreats, and quarterly team meetings that members will be asked to attend. The music ministry can require a fairly large time commitment. It is asked that band members be on time and be prepared for rehearsal that night (including setting up equipment and listening and learning music beforehand).

4. Complete an Application and Audition Process
