Nose Gear Installation

1.

Select the parts required to install the nose gear.

2. The nose gear must be installed after the main gear have been installed.

3. Install the nose wheels, spacers and axle. Trim the spacers to provide light pressure against the

nose wheel fork bearings.(keep lengths equal) Lock the axle in place by drilling 3/32 dia.holes through the axle bearings and axle. Secure with cotter pins item 15.

4. To fit the nose gear, slip the steering arm (long side of the bushing up) down the strut and insert the fork up into the nose gear bearing and through the retainer sleeve. (Note: that it may be necessary to remove tight spots in the bearings using grinding compound and oil. When the nose wheel fork turns free, add bearing grease and proceed.) With the nose wheel on and inflated, place a 1" block under the nose wheel. The block is to compensate for the weight of the

engine when installed. Level the fuselage using the lower longerons. Place two straight edges across the airframe and then place a level on top of them in line with the centerline of the airframe. This will give you a level point from which to work. With the wheel centered, drill through the retainer sleeve and the strut leg for a 1/4" bolt. Next drill the steering arm the same way. (Be sure to locate the steering arm so that the cables do not chafe the pedal pivot shaft, but

not so low as to strike the enclosure). \

5.

NOTE: Roll the airframe back and forth after lowering the airframe to the ground to allow the wheels to relax to a normal ground handling condition.

6. Remove the nose gear strut from the airframe and cut out a notch in the upper bearing for the

castering nose wheel stop as shown.

7.

NOTE: with the nose wheel reassembled and centered carefully, drill a hole in the nose gear sI!Ut for the castering stop bolt and spacer (#9).

After the rudder pedals are installed, the centering springs for the nose wheel and the tension springs for the rudder pedals can be attached.

FRONT

Note: Locate steering arm vertically so that cables and springs do not interfere with airframe cross members.
