What can the Porter Family Professional Development Center do for me?

How do I make an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, please call: (336) 278-6064. You may also stop by the Porter Center (KoBC 106) or the SPDC in Moseley Center to schedule. You may also make an appointment online at or by e-mail at .

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bring your most recent resume and any other materials that you need help with (e.g. cover letter, networking e-mail, thank you note, etc.)

I am a senior. Why am I required to meet with my advisor?

The purpose of your senior meeting is to learn about your plan after graduation and/or help you with your job search.

Internship Questions

Am I required to complete an internship?

All LSB majors (except for Economics) are required to complete an internship.

Am I required to register an internship?

You are only required to register one internship for credit.

How do I register an internship?

Once you have secured an internship, you may register for credit. Make an appointment with Director of Internships to discuss your internship.

How many internships am I allowed to complete?

Students are allowed to complete as many internships as they like, but are only allowed to register for a maximum of 8 credit hours toward the LSB major.

How many hours must I complete to earn internship credit?

1 credit hour = 80 hours of internship work

2 credit hours = 160 hours of internship work

3 credit hours = 240 hours of internship work

4 credit hours = 320 hours of internship work

May I complete my internship during one semester and receive credit at a later time?

No. There is no retroactive credit given for internships. If you are interested in receiving credit for your internship, you must register and complete the coursework during the semester your internship is registered for.

Can I get paid for my internship and earn credit?

Yes. Elon University does allow interns to register for credit hours for paid internships.

Can I complete my internship abroad?

Yes. The Study Abroad office will work with the Director of Internships so that you can complete an internship while abroad.
