Position Statement / Overall Purpose:

This role’s overall purpose within Anglicare SQ (Anglicare) is to provide an in-home intensive intervention and support service to families where child protection issues have been identified as a significant concern.

Two services are offered within this program with all referrals being made by the Department of Communities Child Safety and Disability Services (herein referred to as the Department):

1)Early Intervention: the service will intervene with families who have been notified to statutory child protection and need support so their children can remain safely in the family home; and

2)Reunification: where the intervention will be adequate and sustainable so that the children can return home from an existing out of home care placement and live safely within the natural family home.

The Family Intervention Case Worker will work in accordance with the values of Anglicare and support core business by providing service, guidance and advice within this position’s specialty area.

Position Specific Requirements & Qualifications:

  1. BachelorDegree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or Behavioural Sciences
  2. Current Queensland Driver Licence
  3. Current Blue Card (Working with Children)
  4. Current Licenced Care Service (LCS)

Key Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated ability to identify practice frameworks that empower clients to build and sustain change in their lives to safely care for their children
  2. Demonstrated experience in delivering family intervention activities within a statutory environment,including knowledge ofthe Child Protection Act (1999) and amendments. The successful candidate will have well developed skills in;
  3. Actively engaging and building relationships with parents and children to support effective service delivery and best outcomes for children and families.
  4. Supporting parents to develop practical skills and knowledge that builds self-determination forthem to safely care for their children, improve the safety of the family home environment, build stability and enhance attachment between the child and parent.
  5. Undertaking assessment, planning and delivery of services that are based on the needs of children, and are considerate of both protectiveand risk factors for the family.
  6. Strong communication skills including decision making, problem solving, conflict resolution crisis management.
  7. Familiarity with a range of child protection and community-based services
  8. Proven ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  9. Strong computer skills, including excellent word processing capabilities, proficiency with e-mail and internet applications and experience using programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  1. Accountability: Case Work with Children and Families

Provide in-home child-centred family focused case work to families identified as being at risk of having one or more of their children placed in or remaining in out of home care.

Responsibilities:

  • To ensure families receive appropriate information, support and advice in respect of providing a safe and secure home environment to enable their children to remain in the home, or be able to be returned home safely.
  • Teach and mentora wide range of skills including communication, parenting, personal management and home management; and assist families to develop knowledge to better proctect their children from harm.
  • With families, develop strength based intervention plans thataddresschild proection risks identified by the Department to promote safety for children within the family unit.
  • Undertake ongoing quality assessments of families focused on goal oriented intervention to reduce the likelihood of further harm to children.
  • A willingness to advocate and negotiate on the behalf of children and families, with the children’s best interest in mind.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure communication is appropriate with members of the team.
  • Actively share ideas and resources across the broader team.
  • Participate and contribute to regular team meetings.
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Coordinator.
  • Participate in meetings with the Department and other key stakeholders.
  1. Quality Improvement
  • Maintain a high standard of comprehensive record keeping for quality assurance purposes, including case notes, assessments, service plans and reports
  • Continue professional development; maintain knowledge of current research and practice related to family intervention.’
  • Participate in relevant family support and child protection community networks.
  • Participate in the review of program policies and procedures

  • Do not, during or after employment, disclose information relating to residents, clients and staff of Anglicare or damage the reputation, viability or profitability of Anglicare services;
  • Your responsibilities also extend to any tasks outlined on a duties list, or any other tasks delegated to you by your manager/supervisor, provided that those new job requirements are safe, efficient, relevant, legal and within your abilities.
  • Capability and willingness to provide after hours on call support to families and to work flexible hours, including weekends, mornings and evenings (e.g. supporting parents to implement a bed-time routine).
