GARDENER RULES AND CONTRACT

Donation; Use of Plot. Each Gardener is asked to make a donation of $10 per plot. Checks should be made out to the Rotary Club of Fall River and given or mailed, with a copy of this signed contract, to the Garden Coordinator. Your donation will make possible the purchase of topsoil, seeds, tools, and equipment, as well as fund special events. No person will be denied a plot because of his or her inability to make a donation.

Please do not reserve a plot unless you intend to use it. There is a waiting list of people wishing to garden. If your circumstances change and you are unable to use your plot, please notify the Garden Coordinator immediately so that the plot can be re-assigned to someone on the waiting list.

If you do not wish to garden, but would merely like to make a donation, the Rotary Club of Fall River welcomes contributions in any amount, designated either for the Community Garden or for unrestricted use to further the mission of the Rotary Club of Fall River.

General Maintenance. Gardeners are expected to maintain their garden plot(s) throughout the season. Care includes keeping the paths around the Gardener’s plot(s) free of weeds, rocks, and trash. If a plot is not maintained, the gardener will be given one week’s notice to clean it up. If a gardener must abandon a plot, the Garden Coordinator should be notified as soon as possible.

No Use of Chemicals. The Garden is intended to be organic, and, as such, no chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides (or pressure-treated lumber) may be used in any garden plot.

Consideration for Other Gardeners. Each Gardener should respect all other Gardeners and garden plots, and therefore shall not trespass on or litter other garden plots. The Rotary Club of Fall River recommends that Gardeners harvest crops as soon as they become ripe in order to minimize theft. Children are welcome to visit the Garden with adult Gardeners, but must be supervised to avoid disturbing other Gardeners or their crops.

Water. Water is suppliedfor the Garden by rain catching barrels. Spigots installed in 2011 provide for convenient access to water. Special valves on each spigot prevent backflow and should not be removed. Care should be taken not to waste water. Water is to be used only for watering garden plots.

Tools. Tools made available to Gardeners must be shared and returned when finished using them. These tools will be clearly marked with “Rotary Club” and placed in the shed by the gardens. Gardeners are encouraged to bring their own tools, if possible.

Garden objects. Large objects, such as tables, chairs, benches, or trash barrels, may not be brought to or left at the garden. If not removed, such articles shall be confiscated.

Alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the CommunityGarden. This rule of the Rotary Club of Fall River and the City of Fall River will be strictly enforced.

Garden Waste. A spot will be designated for piling weeds from your garden. No other trash receptacle will be provided. It is the Gardener's responsibility to remove all plant pots, trays, and any other waste.

Topsoil and Compost is usually available at the beginning of the season on a first-come, first-served basis, for use in the garden only.

Fall Clean-up. All Gardeners (or, if a Gardener is out of town, an appropriate representative) must participate in the Fall Clean-up of the Garden, which will be scheduled by the Rotary Club of Fall River on a Saturday morning in late October or early November.

Indemnity. The undersigned Gardener shall indemnify and save harmless the Community Garden Committee of the Rotary Club of Fall River, the Rotary Club of Fall River and the City of Fall River and their respective representatives and sponsors from all costs, losses, damages and liabilities of any kind or nature, arising from or in any way related to the Gardener’s use of the Garden and hereby releases and forever discharges the foregoing from any and all claims or demands for injury to persons or damage to property while present in or around the Garden.
