Sailing Lessons – FUN!

When:Every other Saturday starting

Saturday, Sept. 13 (10- 3). Ending time will depend on number of athletes signed up.

Where:SOGSailingCenter, Macon, GA

Who:Special Olympic Athletes 8 & up

Cost:Free, but parents must provide transportation.This is a wonderful opportunity for athletes to learn the skills of an exciting sport. Athletes will learn sailing skills needed to compete in the Special Olympics Sailing Regatta’s by Special Olympicsinstructor Phil Martin and volunteers. The SailingCenter is located in Macon and has an area for parents to watch, cook out and picnic. All participants must have a medical completed before the first practice or have one already on file. Athletes will need a bathing suit, towel, lunch and a change of clothes. If you have an older child who would like to learn sailing skills they can sign up as a unified partner and compete with their sibling or another athlete. Fall Family Bowling

When:Every Thursday,4-5pm MUST BE OFF THE LANES BY 5:00.

Where:Junction Lanes

Cost:$3 per person every week – includes shoes and all the games you can bowl in one hour. All bowlers must wear socks. This activity is for the entire family! Come out to Junction Lanes any Thursday afternoon at 4:00and tell them you’re with Special Olympics!

Long Distance Walking

When:Every Wednesday, 4-5

Where:LaGrangeStreetPark

Newnan

Who:Athletes 8 & up

Cost:None

Athletes will train on long distance walking beginning with a stretch, a walk and a cool down. Athletes should wear tennis shoes and bring water. No activity on bad weather days.

Christmas Social - Spirit Dance

When:December 18, 7 – 9 pm

Where:CowetaCounty Fair Grounds

Who:Middle & High School students and Rutledge Clients

Cost:A dessert or other edible goodie.

Dress:Sunday best

CCSO will host a “Spirit Dance” to celebrate the holidays and the accomplishments of our fall athletes. Music will be provided by DJ Ray McKnight and the food by parents. We need parent volunteers to chaperone, work the food table, clean up and to send in cookies, fruit or other goodies. Contact Kelly at 770-254-5546, ext. 203 if you can help!

Co-Ed Competition Cheerleading (Try out)

When – Practice is every Saturday

10:30-12:00 (no experience needed)

Where: NewnanSchool of Gymnastics

Who: Any boy or girl 8 & up.

Cost: Free

This is a great opportunity for any child enrolled in the Coweta County School System special education program to participate in an exciting sports program with an established team.The team is preparing for the new competition season learning tumbling skills and routines. Power Lifting

When:Every Saturday starting Sept. 27,

9:00 – 10:00

Where: Rutledge Inc. on Hospital Road

Age: 16 & over – no charge

All participants must have a Special Olympics medical completed or on file by the first practice. Coaches Vickie Adams and Ronnie Schultz are nationally certified instructors with Special Olympics. Lifters will work on specific skills to prepare them for the dead lift, bench press and squat events at competitions. Call Kelly to register for this activity at 770-254-5546, ext. 203.

Coweta Shopping Bazaar

This is a new fundraiser sponsored by Coweta County Special Olympics to be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the AsaPowellExhibitBuilding off Temple Ave. We need vendors! Vendors are exclusive and will not compete with each other and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis as applications are received. Example – only one Avon table, one Tupperware dealer, one Pampered Chef, etc. If you have an exclusive product or craft we want you. Health Fairs

Coweta County Special Olympics will host three health fairs this year. These events provide athletes with the opportunity to see local doctors to have a Special Olympics medical completed without any cost to parents. Volunteers Needed

Coweta County Special Olympics needs YOU! Volunteers are needed in the following areas:

Aquatics – Thursday’s10:30 -11:30am

Bowling – Thursday’s 4-5 at Junction Lanes

Fund raisers – 3 to 4 events a year.

Chaperones – weekend and/or evening events.
