Faith in Families should need no introduction. It is one of the most impressive ways in which the Diocese has developed its outreach into disadvantage families and communities in our area.

The Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility is involved in highlighting issues of social concern within the Diocese, and, as Faith in Families, it runs a number of Projects on behalf of the Diocese which are well established within several disadvantaged communities.

The Family Centres, Outreach Projects and affordable (in some cases free) Childcare Settings strive to be able to fully provide the much-needed children and family support facilities in one-stop centres, easily accessible within the local communities of Blaenymaes, Portmead, Penplas, Penlan, Eastside, Bonymaen, Clase, Caemawr and Brecon.

Faith in Families facilitates a wide variety of activities at our projects including:

  • Parent and Toddler Groups, Playgroups, After School Clubs, Healthy Family Lunches, Play-scheme, Fun Days
  • Drop-in Sessions,Outreach Home Visits
  • Crèches, Childcare,Parenting Courses, Basic Skills courses for Parents
  • Back to Work Projects

Currently, excitement and delight fills Faith in Familiesas we have achieved the MILLION POUND PLUSfunding required for our capital appeal to redevelop St. Teilo’s, Church, Caereithin, into a real Community Church in the heart of Portmead.

This comes after nearly two years of petitions and we are thrilled to announce that the success of a People and Places BIG Lottery bid that together with Welsh Government, Garfield Western Foundation and the Church in Wales has enabled the realisation of the start of this amazing project, which the church family have whole-heartedly supported.

St. Teilo’s will provide a Family Centre, open to all ages, where a range of activities will take place including parent and toddler sessions, high scope play group, healthy family lunch, after school club, holiday play scheme, adult courses, breakfast club and sessions for young people over 10 years of age, to learn new skills and develop friendships whilst having a great time together. Also, a community cafe with free Wi-Fi and social enterprises will be developed for adults of the area, led by the community, for the community.

A donation from this year’s Lent Appeal will be earmarked to provide equipment for the St Teilo’s Centre.
