Submission Guidelines for Conference Posters

About the conference

The Welsh Government’s reducing inequities in health strategic action plan ‘Fairer Health Outcomes for all’ will provide a framework for the conference.

The conference objectives are to:

·  Develop understanding and learning on health inequities in Wales and to take forward action; and

·  Inform policy making and practice.

The conference, which will have a very practical focus, is for policy makers and decision makers in the Welsh Government, NHS, local government and the third sector. Speakers will include:

·  Carwyn Jones, First Minister;

·  Lesley Griffiths, Minister for Health and Social Services;

·  Sir Muir Gray CBE MD, Director of the Oxford Centre for Healthcare Transformation;

·  Dr Jessica Allen, Project Director, Marmot Review Group;

·  David Sissling Chief Executive of NHS Wales;

·  Dr Tony Jewell, Chief Medical Officer for Wales;

·  Professor Sir Mansel Aylward CB, Chair of Public Health Wales.

Posters may be exploratory in nature or consider the findings of existing studies drawn from research or practice. They need to address issues relating to the themes of the conference. We are particularly interested in new and innovative work and how this could be implemented in other areas. Authors should identify:

·  The theme that their poster falls under

·  Context of the research/practice

·  Methodology/methodologies

·  Evaluation and outcomes

Formatting

Abstracts for posters should be a maximum of 150 words in length. Font style should be Arial, size 12. References, if any, should be used sparingly and in the standard Harvard system e.g. (Smith 2005:27) with full reference at the end of the text.

The final poster format size should not exceed a maximum size of A1 (84cm x 59 cm) or a minimum size of A2 (59cm x 42cm).

Layout order

To ensure consistency amongst submissions, please lay out your abstract in the following order:

Title of poster

Author name(s) and institution(s)

Abstract - a brief outline of the poster including theme under which the poster falls, the context of the research, methodology, evaluation and outcomes.

Contact email address(es) and at least one postal address

Themes are as follows:

·  Building Health into all Policies and all Policies into health

·  Giving every child a healthy start in life

·  Developing health assets in communities

·  Improving health literacy

·  Responding to health protection issues

·  Creating safer environments

·  Making health and social services more equitable

·  Improving the health of the working age population

·  Strengthening the evidence base

Posters will need to be completed and sent to the Health Promotion Library for the poster exhibition at the conference by the 9th September 2011.
