Dear Applicant

Thank you for your enquiry requesting information relating to the Design and Architecture courses offered by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. For your information and convenience, we enclose the following:

·  The Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s Application for Admission form (white form)

·  2 Blue AA-1 forms

·  A booklet entitled “Portfolio Requirements”

·  A pink form entitled “Essay/Written Submission”

·  A booklet containing the tuition fees for the current academic year. The fees are determined by the University’s Council from year to year and are subject to revision without prior notice. Prospective applicants are advised to budget for a fee increase of approximately 10% for the forthcoming academic year.

All applicants are urged to meet the requirements as set out in this letter and in the portfolio requirements booklet, as this will prevent unnecessary delays with their selection. The procedure for admission to the Design and Architecture courses, can be divided into two distinct steps or separate procedures, namely:

·  step 1 - submission of administrative documents

please note that the application form must be sent in separately from the portfolio and/or essay!

Please complete this form and return it, together with the required supporting documents, to us as soon as you receive it. If you are currently in Grade 12, please send us a certified copy of your Grade 11 final report as well as a recent grade twelve raport. If you have completed Grade 12, please submit a certified copy of your Senior Certificate. The application fee of R100,00 must accompany the application form.

Due to postal delays and losses, it would be to your advantage if you could deliver the application form to us personally.

·  step 2 - portfolio submission or attendance of the practical admission test

The following points, relating to the submission of the portfolio, are very important viz:-

·  Applicants should start working on the portfolio requirements as soon as they receive it (for courses where this is applicable).

·  The submission of the application form and the portfolio are two separate issues and must not be handled as one.

·  Applicants who live within 250 kms of Cape Town and who are applying for admission to the National Diploma in Jewellery Design and Manufacture, the National Diploma in Surface Design, well as the National Diploma in Three-Dimensional Design, are required to attend a practical admission test, which takes place on campus.

·  If you have another design course as second choice, you must also comply with the portfolio requirements, or practical admission test requirements for the course concerned, i.e. you must submit a second portfolio or attend the relevant practical admission test. If you fail to do so, your second choice will be ignored.

Compulsory evaluation session for Architecture applications:

A compulsory evaluation session, compiled by the Architecture Department’s Selection Committee, will be conducted for all applicants who submit the prescribed portfolio. The dates are indicated in the portfolio requirements booklet.

The closing date for submission of the portfolio is:-

WEDNESDAY 31 JULY 2013

before 14:00

·  the portfolio must be handed to the secretary WHOSE ROOM NO. IS LISTED IN THE PORTFOLIO BOOKLET.

·  Please remember to submit the following documents together with the portfolio:-

·  blue aa-1 form

·  You will be required to submit two; one with your portfolio and the other must be included with the application form (refer to Step no. 1 on the previous page). Please do not forget to attach the passport-size photograph as requested.

·  essay form

The essay form must only be completed if it is applicable to the course for which you are applying (please check the portfolio requirements booklet for this information).

·  school report or senior certificate

Please enclose an additional copy of your Grade 11 final report, or Senior Certificate (whichever is applicable), together with the portfolio.
