SUBJECT:Call for Presentations at the 2014Faculty Retreat

The purpose of this memo is to solicit proposals from faculty to present at the retreat. All full time and adjunct faculty members are encouraged to submit workshop proposals for the annual faculty retreat. Currently, we are only soliciting proposals for workshops. Persons interested in attending the retreat as a participant, should wait for the retreat registration/announcement memo which will be sent out in late February.

The 2014 faculty retreat will be held at the Hilton Santa Fe Buffalo Thunder Resort and Spa on May 20th21st, 2014. The college will pay for a shared room and also provide for several meals while at the retreat. If desired, private rooms for the entire retreat will be available for $99 (single king or two queens) for two nights. Participants will also have the option of early arrival for an additional fee of $99. The Buffalo Thunder is a complete resort hotel. A few of the amenities offered by the hotel include a 27 hole golf course, a casino, a full service spa, six restaurants , live entertainment, indoor and outdoor pools, an extensive collection of Native American artwork, etc. For more information on the Buffalo Thundervisit their website at

The theme for this year’s retreat is “Building Connections with our Colleagues.” This theme was chosen based on numerous requests from past retreat participants that we have an activityinvolving the whole group. Thus, the opening session on Tuesday afternoon will feature roundtables in which participants share their views on various topics (see attachment describing topics under consideration). We are asking presenters if they would volunteer to facilitate a roundtable discussion. The faculty lead workshops will take place on Wednesday morning in two time slots between 9 a.m. and noon. However, faculty can request that their workshop be held during any of the free times which will be on Tuesday after 8 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, or Wednesday evening after 8:30 p.m. Past retreats participants have shown a preference for workshops that focus on professional and/or personal growth, physical and emotional wellness, hobbies, arts/crafts, collegiality, etc. Unique workshops on teas, food, chocolate, etc. have also been well attended. Workshops on any topic are acceptable.Workshop formats can vary widely and include any of the following; formal presentations, “hands-on” group activities, exercise, and “fun” activities such as dance/singing/hiking, etc. However, since some of the available meeting space may involve informal locations around the facilities of this hotel, we are asking that most presentations be kept simple. We will be able to accommodate a few presentations that require audio-visual support or involve the need for a large space. The time allotted for each workshop will be 1 hour and fifteen minutes.

To be considered as a retreat presenter, the attached application form must be received no later than February 14th. Email your form to , or mailtheform to the Faculty Development Office at Valle Verde, A2419. Persons who submit a retreat proposal will beconsidered to be retreat participants. Later you will be asked to submit a retreat registration form when the general call for retreat registration goes out to faculty in February. Retreat participants will be asked to select those workshops they wish to attend and this will determine which ones are to be offered at the retreat. If your workshop is selected by the retreat participants, we may be able to provide you with a small “reward” such as an additional meal allotment as a small “thank you” for your willingness to lead a workshop. If your workshop is not among those selected, you will still be eligiblefor consideration to be a retreat participant as per the retreat selection criteria and in almost all cases you will be included as a retreat participant.

Feel free to contact me (ext 4080 or 2653)should you have any questions or desire additional information.
