PSG College of Technology, an institution of academic excellence, was founded in the year 1951 by PSG & Sons’ Charities Trust. The institution is equipped with latest facilities and excellent infrastructure. The college has signed MoUs with research organizations and industries to promote closer interaction in the areas of technology development, student training, curriculum updation and establishment of state-of-art-centers of excellence. The mission of the institution is to provide world-class engineering education, foster research and development.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in the year 2006 with a vision to in depth knowledge in the area of Electronics and Biomedical Engineering as well as professional skills necessary to face the challenges of the future and enable to find innovative applications of Technology for reaching the goal of Health for all in our Country. The department endeavors to educate students to acquire technical expertise and knowledge in the field of Biomedical Engineering to enable them to communicate and use that knowledge constructively for the benefit of the society.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Medical Equipment Calibration is the process of ensuring the output quality of said equipment is at par with the industry defined standards and done to ensure that the functionality of the item, as well as the result/reading it provides, is accurate at the point of delivery. Similar to other equipments medical equipment also experience wear and tear over time that directly impacts its performance accuracy thereby affects the patient’s diagnosis and therapy. The only solution to retain the equipment’s effectiveness and minimize risks/ uncertainty prevailing among medical equipments is via regular calibration.

Why calibration of medical equipment is important?

  • The accuracy provided by such medical equipment is crucial to the overall output, with respect to quality and profitability.
  • To receive the necessary certifications and licenses from regulatory authorities.

Scope for Engineers

  • Increase of awareness among community and doctors wish to deliver accurate diagnosis and quality care results in calibration of medical equipments.
  • Our country’s medical design products is trending towards testing and ensuring to meet international(EU and FDA) standards and safety norms. If constrains is satisfied, only if the calibration of any equipment is completed.
  • Aware of calibration procedure of medical equipments is an added eligibility for any Biomedical engineer in his/her career
  • Greater opportunity as service engineer at healthcare industries
  • Option for engineer to become entrepreneur in healthcare industry

When it comes to frequency of equipment calibration, each one has different requirements based on its scope and scale of use. The best way to ensure equipment calibration is done regularly is by creating a calibration schedule, for which you must also consider the following aspects:

Manufacturer Recommended Frequency

Before Starting a Critical Measuring Project

After Completion of a Critical Measuring Project

Post an Unforeseen Accident

As per Project Mandates

At Pre-decided Time Intervals

Today awareness is on the increase in the community and doctors would like to deliver accurate diagnosis and quality care, negating all chances. More and more companies in India now are going in for testing and ensuring that their products meet international standards and safety norms. With medical tourism a reckonable aspect of the industry, India is fast catching up with EU and FDA standards voluntarily rather that with any Government initiative
