HISTORY
BARRIO PASONG TAMO
THE NAME WAS DERIVED FROM THE WILD
PLANTS CALLED “TAMO”, THICKLY GROWING
ALONG MAJOR PATHS CUTTING THROUGH AND/OR
FROM THE EASTERN PARTS TO THE WESTERN EXITS
OF THIS AREA. THE REVOLUTIONARIES (ANDRES
BONIFACIO) SO NAMED THE PLACE.
THE NAME DATES BACK FROM THE TIME OF THE
ILUSTRADOS / SPANISH TIME. THE BARRIO WAS OF
NATURAL EXISTENCE SINCE EARLY 1880.
LEGAL BOUNDARIES WAS ESTABLISHED AND
BARANGAY PASONG TAMO WAS FORMALLY
CREATED UNDER EXECUTIVE ORDER 27 PURSUANT
TO ORDINANCE NO. 4992 DURING THE INCUMBENCY
OF THE LATE MAYOR NORBERTO S. AMORANTO, IN
THE PRESENCE OF THE NEIGHBORING TENIENTE
DEL BARRIO’S WHO WERE CALLED FOR A
CONFERENCE.
DURING THE VERY FIRST FORMAL BARRIO
OFFICIALS TENURE OF OFFICE, THIS PLACE WAS
BARELY POPULATED.IT’S ORIGINAL INHABITANTS
NUMBER IS APPROXIMATELY NO MORE THAN 700
PEOPLE. THERE WAS NO OFFICIAL CENSUS, BARRIO
ELECTION WAS BY ACCLEMATION OR VIVA VOCE,
REGISTERED VOTERS COUNT WAS ONLY ABOUT 120
PEOPLE.

Barangay Characteristics
Geographically situated in the heart of Quezon City. Barangay Pasong Tamo is endowed with historical, rich cultureand aspirations. The Barangay is the death place of the mother ofthe Katipuneros, Melchora Aquino or TandangSora.
From its humble existence as a barrio and originalinhabitants, who shared common culture and aspirations, theBarangay was transformed and nurtured into a self-reliantcommunity through the good leadership and governance.
Originally, an ordinary Barangay in District 2, Area 12 ofQuezon City, today the Barangay has become one of the top five(5) Barangays in the four (4) Districts of the entire Quezon City. Among the programs instituted are the moral and value
formation undertaken with the residents to become socially awareand responsible to the needs of the Barangay.Alongside with this, are the various economicallyempowering measures designed to place the residents in theeconomic mainstream.
Political reforms have been instituted tounify all sectors towards the developmental goals of thecommunity. These institutional reforms are conceived of mutualand shared responsibilities in the developmental changes in thecommunity.The key factors on its transformation can be summarized intogood leadership and socio-economic and political reformsinstituted by the previous Punong Barangay Ma. Victoria Co-Pilar.
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT IN PUBLIC SERVICE
INFRASTRUCTURE
•Articulated, pushed and negotiated with the DPWH and Quezon City Government for the construction/opening of Congressional Avenue Extension inter-connecting Luzon, TandangSora and Visayas Avenues;
•Asphalted/cemented 95 % of the total 180 roads in the Barangay;
•Facilitated/negotiated for the installation of power services to 99% of total 28,000 households in the Barangay;
•Facilitated/negotiated for the availability of water services connection to 95% of the total households in the Barangay;
•Established the construction of basketball court/recreational facilities in the community;
•Articulated/negotiated for the construction of road connecting and intra-linking all barangay roads in the community.
EDUCATION
•Provided continuing education on computer knowledge thru the Computer Learning Center benefiting 188 graduates from 2008 to present;
•Provided assistance to the Pasong Tamo Elementary School thru donation of books and equipments;
•Articulated and sourced out sponsor for the construction of 2 additional classroom buildings at Pasong Tamo Elementary School;
•Provided for the construction and maintenance of all Day Care Centers strategically located on the innermost Sitio of the Barangay, thus improving accessibility to education.
PEACE AND ORDER
•Provided the continuing 24 roving BPSO assistance/visibility in the areas, thus reducing the crime occurrences;
•Formulated the Disaster Preparedness Plan and organized Disaster Brigade in preparation for times of calamities;
•Negotiated for the establishment of Community Police Precinct in the barangay;
•Provided installation of streetlights on all area to deter crime occurrences.
HEALTH
•Provided for regular anti-dengue activities;
•Provided maintenance of the Barangay Health Center;
•Negotiated for the establishment of the BotikangBarangay;
•Conducted regular medical, dental and free medicines missions for the indigent residents;
LIVELIHOOD AND COOPERATIVE
•Provided various livelihood seminars in coordination with NGOS and government offices focused on placing the residents within the economic mainstream;
•Established cooperative association among the ladies residents in managing and operating a mini market (Talipapa).
SOCIALIZED HOUSING
•Facilitated/negotiated with landowners and beneficiaries the acquisition of total number of 42 CMP/direct selling scheme consisting of 124,839.3 sq. mts. lots for the benefit of 2, 358 families in the barangay;
•Adopted a policy of minimum dislocation on cases of eviction/demolition in the community.
SANITATION
•Organized an effective and regular collection of garbage/waste materials on all area in the barangay;
•Conducted regular clean-up activities to prevent/minimize occurrence of diseases and calamities in the community.
