TRANSITIONS OFFERS EYECARE PROFESSIONALS RESOURCES TO “GET SOCIAL”

Launch of Facebook Page and Guide Books Help Eyecare Professionals Stay Connected

ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 24, 2011 – More than 500 million people worldwide are now actively using Facebook; and Transitions Optical, Inc. is providing resources for eyecare professionals in Canada to join the conversation and spread the message of healthy sight through social media. At the 15th annual Transitions Academy here today, Transitions Optical announced the launch of the Transitions Lenses: Healthy Sight Professionals (Canada) Facebook page, and encouraged attendees to begin using it as a forum for resources and Transitions Optical news. Transitions also introduced Putting Your Practice on Facebook and Getting Social: Social Media For Your Practice – guide books designed to help eyecare professionals best utilize social media as a valuable business tool to stay top-of-mind with patients and build their businesses. All of these resources are available in both English and French.

The new Transitions Lenses: Healthy Sight Professionals Facebook (Canada) page offers eyecare professionals a place to connect on issues related to healthy sight and seek business-building information and tips on recommending Transitions® lenses. The page contains educational videos, photos from industry events, and links to business resources and education. In addition, several industry associations and optical brands currently have a presence on Facebook, making it easy for an eyecare professional to create a network of peers.

The Transitions Facebook guide, Putting Your Practice on Facebook, explains what social media is, where Facebook fits in and how it can help eyecare professionals communicate with other professionals and patients. For example, by creating a business page for their practice, eyecare professionals can enable patients using Facebook to become fans. This will allow eyecare professionals to actively interact with patients and share information on events, promotions and healthy sight. The guide includes a glossary to help eyecare professionals understand common Facebook terms, and a list of “dos” and “don’ts” to help them get started while avoiding the pitfalls that may come with sharing information on the Web.

“As social media use in Canada continues to increase, we want to make sure eyecare professionals have the support and tools they need to effectively build a social media presence for their practice,” said Isabelle Tremblay-Dawson, marketing manager, Canada. “Social media offers the optical industry a great opportunity to connect and communicate with patients on a personal level, while growing their business.”

To provide eyecare professionals with more in-depth information about expanding social media outreach for their practice, Transitions Optical also created Getting Social: Social Media For Your Practice. This guide provides an overview of popular social media applications, offers guidelines for developing a social media plan and gives tips on the best practices for using social media to bring in new business.

“There are many more social media sites – beyond Facebook – that eyecare professionals can use to reach patients, and the

Getting Social guide can help eyecare professionals decide which form of social media makes sense for them,” said Tremblay-Dawson.

Putting Your Practice on Facebook and Getting Social: Social Media For Your Practice are available on the marketing tools section of the Transitions Optical trade portal, or by calling Transitions Customer Service at (877) 254-2590. The Transitions Lenses: Healthy Sight Professionals (Canada) Facebook page can be found via a search on Facebook, and is separate from the consumer-facing Transitions lenses and U.S. Healthy Sight Professionals page.
