Nursery Closure / Extreme Weather Policy

ABC Pre-School Swalecliffe and ABC Extra (Breakfast / After school / Holiday Club) are unable to remain open if the Swalecliffe School site is deemed unsafe by the school Headteacher. In the event that ABC Pre-school is unable to open, (or has to close early), we put into practice the following procedures. These help to ensure that all families of children attending the setting are made aware that the setting will be closed.Provision of early year’s education places is not part of a child’s statutory education so Kent County Council is unable to authorise the closure of a private provider such as ABC. We aim to ensure that the pre-school remains open whenever possible.

If ABC is not able to open for a session (or has to unavoidably close early), the following actions will be taken:

  • Our Facebook page will be updated with the latest opening / closure information
  • All families of nursery children due to attend for that day will be telephoned by a member of ABC staff.
  • Where possible, nursery children will be offered alternative care at our ABC Long Rock setting. Please note, this offer is subject to the number of spaces and staff available in order to ensure ratios are maintained. There is NO After School club facility at ABC Long Rock.
  • If any family has concerns that a session will not open due to weather conditions and has not been contacted directly by a member of ABC staff or seen an announcement on our Facebook page, we ask that they telephone the office on01227 280444 or email us at confirm.
  • If a session is closed early due to school closure, all parents will be contacted using contact numbers currently available. Please ensure that new numbers are always advised to ABC.
  • In the event of non-collection of a child we will follow our non-collection policy and procedure.

Please note that where closure of ABC Pre-school Swalecliffe / ABC Extra Out of School Clubs is out of our control, all fees for the day remain payable and no refunds will be offered.
