1. Interns are required to develop, in consultation with the partner organization and a member of the Faculty, a research project prior to the beginning of the field work. Interns can use the one day per week reserved for their research project while in the field to carry out the documentary or empirical research needed to further develop their project. Interns must then write, under the supervision of a member of the Faculty, an academic essay of approximately 8,000 words, see #3 for submission deadlines.
2.This form must be completed and returned to the SAO by 3:00p.m., as per the deadlines listed below:
WRIT 020 (6 credits) (summer)
For the summer 6-credit course, application form must be submitted for approval by May 11.
WRIT 020D1/D2 (3 credits and 3 credits) (summer/fall)
For the summer-fall course, it is preferable that students identify a general topic and secure a supervisor prior to their departure; however, if a student is unsure of topic and supervisor, then an indication to that effect must be forwarded by email to . The application form must be submitted for approval by September 2.
N.B. Human Rights Internships only count for 3 non-course credits.
3.Human Rights InternshipsEssays must be submitted to the SAO as follows:

Internship Report for both courses due September 30
No extensions will be granted without the permission of the Student Affairs Officer. Students and Faculty are reminded that Article27 of the Faculty's Academic Regulations governs the granting of extensions. It states, in part: In the absence of a medical certificate or analogous circumstances, any required paper or essay submitted after its due date shall be assessed a penalty of one grading unit per day late.
4.Essays will be returned, together with the Supervisor's recommended marks and a detailed evaluation sheet for the assistance of the student, to the SAO prior to the deadline for submission of marks for the designated term.
5.Students are reminded that plagiarism is a very serious academic offence. McGillUniversity values academic integrity. Therefore, all students must understand the meaning and consequences of cheating, plagiarism and other academic offences under the Code of Student Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures (see for more information).
