Explorer Biography Book Assignment

You will be creating a short book describing 4 out of the 8 explorers. One side of the room will do the even numbered explorers and the other will do the odd numbered explorers.

The Eight Explorers are:

1. Vasco da Gama

2. Christopher Columbus

3. Bartholomew Dias

4. Vasco Nunez de Balboa

5. Ferdinand Magellan

6. John Cabot

7. Jacques Cartier

8. Henry Hudson

How the book will be laid out:

  • You will take 2 pieces of paper and fold them in half hamburger style.
  • Staple it 3 times along the fold line as close to the edge as possible to create your book.
  • Now you have an 8 page book, next you will find detailed instructions of what you need to write on each page.
  • Page 1: Title page: On this page you need the title of your book, a picture/illustration, and the authors name of the book.
  • Page 2: Your table of contents that tells me what is on each page of your book.
  • Page 3: The biography of your first explorer (Either 1 or 2 from the list above depending on which side of the room your on.)
  • Page 4: Biography of second explorer (3 or 4)
  • Page 5: Biography of third explorer (5 or 6)
  • Page 6: Biography of fourth explorer (7 or 8)
  • Page 7: The four explorers your partner had and the 3 key facts for each
  • Page 8: Self-Grading
  • You will be given a rubric that you staple to page 8 to do the grading

What is needed in each of the four biographies

-Birth/Death Date (as specific as possible)

-Where they are from(can be different than the country that financed their explorations)

-Who financed their explorations (BOTH THE COUNTRY AND THE RULER)

-The areas they explored/routes they took/places they discovered. This should be the bulk of your writing for that page.
